Car was clean and as pictured. Nice vehicle and easy host to deal with, everything went as planned.

Matthew was a pleasure rent too. He treated my Tesla Model S like his own and returned it in perfect condition.

Hosting Matthew was an unexpected and unwelcome experience for me as a host. Each one of my vehicles offers delivery to the airport (IND) with details provided by me and through Turo that state quite plainly that delivery entails picking up guests curbside from IND and driving them to my home, as I do not have a person who can accompany me to and from IND to give away keys at the airport; a similar process at trip end requires me to ride with them to IND for their drop off. Some other hosts in the Indianapolis area and at other major airports are able to deliver cars curbside and provide for their own return home and I envy them, as it is an objectively higher level of service. However, based on Matthew’s past experiences with his own deliveries as a host and/or airport deliveries as a guest, he expected this trip’s delivery to end in the cell phone lot and not at my home fifteen minutes away. It was unclear at the time and I am still uncertain about what caused this mismatched expectation. It could have been an innocent oversight on his part during the busy holiday season. It could have been willful ignorance to there being any other possibility based on his previous experiences. I like to assume people start with good intentions, so I highly doubt Matthew created an opportunity to argue with me. We had a mostly-silent ride back to my home (after he called my delivery details “not convenient at all” and other hard-to-hear grumblings as we left IND). For Matthew’s convenience and better lighting, pre-trip photos had been taken at the airport’s gas station prior to picking him up at IND. All that was left to do at my home was take a photo of the odometer and fuel gauge and check his license. I was treated to a few minutes of Matthew impatiently pacing around the car as my phone uploaded 26 photos to the cloud, followed by him forcefully yanking open of my driver’s door when I asked to verify the details of his license. Matthew then laid into me some more spouting, “Why did I even pay for delivery to have you drive me here?” and “You shouldn’t offer delivery to the airport then!” At this point, I couldn’t tell for sure if he was genuinely this upset about missing a detail that I didn’t try to hide, or if he had some other source of stress and was letting some frustration out on me. We each remained professional in our wording and refrained from name-calling, but voices were raised. I was exasperated at this point and told him, “Turo allows me to keep these delivery details on my profile and tells guests that I need a ride nearby from the airport when you’re booking the trip; you just didn’t read them.” I gave him my home address as returning the car just reverses this process and he would need to return here Monday to pick me up for the airport drop off. He immediately told me that wasn’t happening. When I asked where he planned to return the car, he said the airport, because coming back here was ridiculous. Resigned to being done with this interaction, but ultimately still comfortable letting go of the car, I retorted, “Look forward to a demand letter [see 10-day demand letter for return of loaned vehicle] then.” He and his guest left with the car, but ultimately returned it just 90 minutes later and left it in the hourly parking at IND with photos of its location within the garage (and the fuel at ¾ full). Tangentially related detail: I’m a pharmacist and was on call this evening; I was paged to work just minutes before being notified of the car’s return, so I was unable to retrieve the car until the next morning. In the end, Turo made sure to compensate me for the full cost of the trip and delivery as I fulfilled each of my duties as a host (aside from feigning pleasantness while being met with indignation and hostility). I am not privy to the details of what accommodations or amends were made between Matthew and Turo surrounding his side of the reservation, but I hope with equal strength that: 1. Turo did not give in to Matthew’s cry foul over a crystal clear detail that was missed or disregarded, and 2. That Matthew and his guest were able to move past this issue and enjoy their visit home with family. I cannot recommend Matthew as a guest, especially for hosts who offer delivery.

Matt returned our Tesla Model S how we hope to get her back... Just the way we left her. Matt has great communication and responds quickly. I felt good handing over the keys. A+
