I may be more conservative than other RR car owners, perhaps others will have very satisfactory experiences renting to Nina. I marked that I would not rent to you again because I would like to minimize the management factor, to make it worth the very cheap price I offer. But the experience was not extremely terrible, hence the 4 stars but no repeat rental.
I feel responsible for giving a detailed explanation so that other potential car lenders don't read assumptions into my rating of "wouldn't rent again," and also so that Nina can get specific feedback from an owner's perspective, perhaps for more mutually satisfactory experiences in the future.
1) Puctuality and communication: Six minutes before meeting time, Nina texted that she would arrive in half hour. Luckily I didn't have to go out, but it did cause some inconvenience which could have been avoided if I had gotten a heads-up earlier. I understand that until recently, cars were not handed off in person, so it did not matter at all if the renter came late. Now that hand-offs are in person, it would be good protocol to inform the other person as soon as you know that you will be late, not just a few minutes before meeting time. In fairness, Nina's first message to me said that since it was Halloween her pick-time "can be flexible". I thought this meant that if I needed a different timing, we could discuss and arrange a different time. If you were trying to give me a heads-up that your pick-time was uncertain, then I suggest you use the word "uncertain" rather than "flexible" to avoid misunderstanding.
Nina did communicate well regarding dropping of the car while I was out.
2) Care for car: I had washed the exterior of the car freshly so it was shiny and pretty, and it was returned the next day looking like it had gone off-road a bit - there were dirt splashes, splotches and drips. I think in the situation where you return a car significantly dirtier after a 1 day rental at a very cheap price, it would be nice to either take 10 minutes to wipe the car down with towels and water, or leave a small tip towards the next car wash. That's my feeling, perhaps other people expect that dirtying the car comes with the rental price. In the future I will raise my price so that it will be worth potential extra management/cleaning.
I have read so many stories about very personable and conscientious transactions in the RR community that I was convinced to try it. But given that I need to count on my car to be in good running condition when I do need to use it, when there is less than 5-star consideration regarding timing and cleanliness, I feel less general trust and peace of mind that my car will be conscientiously cared for. So I will stick to 5-star customers rather than aiming for the highest volume of rentals.
