This was my first time in a Prius so I literally had to google (while sitting in the car) how to start it!
It was a great car and I will totally rent it again. I had to wait for awhile because the parking lot was full but loved this car :)
This is a nice little ride, easy on the gas budget, very easy to pick up and return, and about as clean as you could expect considering the constant flow of people using it. The owner equips it with audio input and iPod charger, which is nice. Might be nice to also keep an ice scraper/snow brush in there. As some other reviewers mentioned, working the dashboard controls on a Prius takes a bit of getting used to - if you haven't driven one before, fiddle around the climate controls, etc, before getting on the road.
I think a lot of the issues that others have listed on this car have been resolved. The parking lot was super easy to find as well as get out of, it started like any other Prius (push button). It wasn't perfectly clean, but a lot of people use the car and it is relatively inexpensive so this hardly matters to me. It got great gas mileage, close to 50 for the entire trip. The text-to-unlock was very easy to use and presented no problems. I would highly recommend this vehicle, especially for longer trips. It was nice to only have to fill up a couple of times! The gas tank is fairly small (I think 10-12 gallons), so it might seem like the gas is going quickly, but if you figure that a full tank costs about $25-30 and you get 450 miles out of it - good deal!
The car was great, the owner VERY responsive. I will definitely rent again.
A suggestion for pick up: describe the location as "a parking lot where 155 Highland Avenue would be if there WERE a 155 Highland Ave."
Overall a good experience. A few tips, to hopefully help fellow users:
*Read the instruction sheet which should be in the visor. It's next to impossible to figure out this car without it!
*For some reason there was a continual beeping sound from the RR reader device throughout my entire trip (8 h!) Talk about being driven nearly insane. RR said they would look into it, so I'm sure that the wiring has now been fixed, and they credited my account for the inconvenience, which I appreciated.
*Having a GPS was great, but at first I couldn't figure out why it seemed unable to locate the MA address I put in. You have to choose the country zone that your address is located in for it to find it, so if it can't find your destination that may be why. Being new to GPS, I didn't know that, so hopefully this will help others.
*Be prepared to do some tricky maneuvering to get the car into and out of its parking lot! The attendant may be willing to help.
Overall, I liked the relayride.com experience. The texting to open/shut is a clever mechanism.
My big issue with the rental was that someone had smoked in the car before me. I don't just mean one or two smokes. It REEKED of stale cigarette smoke. It was a pervasive stench even after airing the car out repeated times(all windows down driving for 5 minutes).
It was so bad that I had to go get some Febreeze. Even then, I parked the car, did some shopping, and returned to it - and it needed another spray down. Very Seinfeld-ian.
I suppose whoever had it before me didn't adhere to the 'no smoking' policy.
It's not Turo's fault that someone broke their rules.... i think there's a member out there that needs their nicotine-stained hands slapped.
The write-up said the key was hanging by the steering column?it was not. I didn't even know what it looked like (never used a Prius before). Nothing like a conventional car key.
Finally figured out what that piece of plastic was (ah, the ignition key!), resting in the center console, & then how to fit into the dash slot. Great to drive, but way too much initial drama in getting underway, due to poor directions.
I will say again that the car is fantastic but the parking spot is horrendous due to the extremely BAD service and attitude of the attendents at the lot. Since this is lot uses the method of cramming every car they can into the lot and have access to every key, not giving them keys causes them to make one wait to park the car. I would have been able to officially return the car 15 minutes earlier had I not been made to wait while they serviced parkers who arrived after I did and while they huffed and puffed making a space for the car.
There is a bad horse manure smell/odor inside the car. We also thought that there would be some change for tolls, as promised on one of the notes inside the car, but we had to dig up some cash for tolls.
Retrieving the car from the lot that the car is parked in is somewhat dificult due to the tight, crowded nature of the lot. I would strongly recommend to make renting this car easier would be to mske sure that when you return it, back the car into a space. This will make it easy for the next renter to drive out..
Great Car! I have a prius and I found it odd to have to press the power button 3 times, usually in any other prius you just have to press the power button once. The voice commands and bluetooth was great.
My first hybrid drive, I really liked it, and for the price I loved it. Instruction card in visor needs to be updated, it mentions a key and there is no longer one - just push the button 3x to turn on. Ignore the rest.
