We rented the classic Mercedes 380 SL on 27 September. When we picked the car up, we were told by Justin that we’d ‘look great’ driving around Central London, but he also advised he was not sure whether the congestion charge was included in the rental cost. As a result, we paid the congestion charge for the car, and only afterwards (2hours after we had collected the car) did Justin advise that the C-Charge was included, meaning we had paid it twice.
We took the car from Highgate (collection point) to Chiswick, and had no issues. However, later in the day we drove the car into London, and the car quickly overheated and broke down. We tried to call the company approximately 20-30 times without any answer, and we were left stranded at Earls Court for almost 3 hours. This completely ruined our day, as we had arranged for a photo shoot with the car in Richmond area that we could not make it to. Having explained the situation to the company, they were not helpful at all, and stated that we were not willing to wait for the RAC even though we had waited with the car for almost 3 hours, and we needed to return a second hire car to Stanstead that same night.
In light of all of the above, I would not recommend using this company. At no point were we advised that the car is prone to overheating, they own the car and they definitely know that it will happen at some point (because when we picked up the car, Justin mentioned that the car may get overheated, it's quite normal and all we have to do is turn the engine off and turn it back on and it will be all good), it's their responsibility to mark it down on the contact or at least remind us. The break down completely ruined what should have been a memorable day for us, and the response and service from the company after the incident has not been acceptable. They were basically saying we should be thankful that we had and 'enjoyed' the car for 9 hrs while we actually paid for a full day - 24 hrs rental!
