I reserved this car right before the end of instant access devices. This is the second time I've rented Ian's car and I continue to enjoy it. The manual transmission was recently replaced so it was such a smooth ride.
I would never rent this car again. After two months, I received an additional bill for a ticket. I parked the car in the same exact spot that I picked it up and I checked for street parking days and left. Turns out he does not have a permit to park on the street. This was not made clear in his ad or email confirmation. I noticed he recently updated it to reflect this. I guess he can use Turo customers to pay for all his tickets and it is a pretty good deal that he has going on. I was shocked that I had to cover a ticket without giving all the necessary information to make an informed parking decision. Just wrong in my book for 2 hour car rental. Turo was not helpful neither.
Don't rent this if you are a clean freak. Rent it if you know how to drive stick and you enjoy accelerating. Part of the car's shell is loose, it's NOT going to fall off or anything, but it rattles when you go over bumps. If you have the music turned up you can't hear it! :) I would rent this car all the time if it was closer to the Haight.
Easy to find, easy to drive. Handles well, very zippy & maintenance wise - a cared for vehicle. Manual cars get burned out so easily here & the clutch is still in tact, the brakes don't squeak & the tires are fine. I consider that quite an achievement. Car was easy to get to - about a 5 min walk off the 48, 5-10 off the 24.
Pro-tip - I wouldn't take this car on a business meeting or a date. The inside & outside were pretty dirty. Nothing crazy - just needs a good wash, vacuum & wipe down.
Pro-tip #2: Return the car during the car if you can - parking in that part of the Mission is cray at nighttime. There's a park at 25th & Harrison (Garfield Park?) that usually has a parking spot during the day.
On the way to pick up the car I contact Ian and he gladly explained where the car was parked. It was very fun to drive in the city and ride in comfort and style. The car itself gets a great gas mileage n performs well. Would happily rent it again.
Unfortunately the car was dirty inside and out. Several personal belongings were left in the car. Mechanically the car runs great though.
Also, there was no parking map like in other Relay cars. When searching for the map, we found another card that said park near 16th street, not 26th like online. This led to further confusion and we had to call Turo to straighten it out.
Ian was nice to inform me before the rental that he was not in the country, and how to connect with Relay if there were any issues. Not sure how much his being abroad had something to do with the bad shape of the car, but unfortunately right now I would not recommend it as a rental to others.
nice car - very fun to drive, in good mechanical condition, really good short-throw shift. 3 minutes to pickup from my airbnb; parking on return not too bad; circled precita park a couple times until someone pulled out. only downside - the interior has not been cleaned in quite some time.
I loved driving this car out to Stinson Beach for the day!!! While it was a bit dirty inside and out, it's looks good and drives great + leather heated seats and a kick ass sound system makes this a perfect day trip vehicle. Hoping other drivers help to keep this gem clean so we can all enjoy! Do be aware it can take a bit to find a place to park it back in the area.
Took the car up to Napa for the day. Great and stable ride with decent gas mileage (only had to put $15 bucks for the entire trip). My only tiff is that the car can use a good detail cleaning inside. There was an opened can of iced tea in the front seat, and the center cup holder in the back seat has an opened and almost fully consumed lollipop stuck inside of it.
Great little car. Fun to drive. good looking. hatchback with fold-down seats. My favorite part is that it's bold enough to take the name "Stick Shift" for itself even though there are many stick shifts on Turo.
This was the second time I rented stick shift and have nothing negative to say about this wonderful car. The car was very clean inside and out. Nice car to drive and runs like new.
The next time I need a car, I hope stick shift is available.
With an expectation based upon previous reviews, I was surprised to find the car to be much cleaner and fancier than anticipated. It shows minor wear and tear, possibly from previous rentals. It has good acceleration and it easy to handle. I had a problem with accidentally triggering the car alarm system. I texted Ian and he responded very quickly with enough info to disarm it and to prevent it from happening again. Ian would save himself and the renters some headaches by putting the car alarm info in the standard Car Instructions for his car that people receive in an email before their reservation begins.
Owner needed to change the pick up location and Turo & owner, Ian made sure I had new address. Stick shift is a great car easy and fun to drive with the 5 speed manual transmission. Stick shift has a lot of room inside and 4 doors make it easy access. Tons of power option that are easy to use. The car ran great and was so much fun to drive I am checking to see when I need a car again. feel that people tent to be to critical about the cleanliness of cars.
This car would look better with a wash and vacuum but was no way dirty enough to be called on. I had to call the owner 3 or 4 times during the rental period, I thought I was bothering him after 4 times but Ian was always nice and friendly and very helpful. Stick Shift has been moved to the top of my list for favorite rental at Turo
The car had garbage strewned about and some sand in the front seat, nothing a quick vacuum could have managed to do. Brakes were squeaky, so we were a bit concerned. Ian said he now noted this in his profile as he just had the brakes replaced. Great ride - fun to drive - and Ian was responsive via SMS re: brake concern. Will rent again if cleaned more. Thanks!
Fine car. Dirty, no gas, weird sound when making turns, the alarm kept going off, but owner didn't leave the alarm key... He did call me back quickly and helped me figure out how to sort out the alarm. It was a frustrating experience. I probably won't rent again. Oh, I almost died from the heavy, heavy smell of perfume... I had to keep windows down for a while to get rid of the smell. On the good side... Car is cozy, pretty fun to drive... Ian is a friendly guy!
Overall great car to rent. No problems with the clutch whatsoever, the car is a pleasure to drive. Will rent again, only advice to the owner would be to keep the gas filled up. I had to refuel and forgot to retain the receipt, I guess my bad!
OMG! Super awesome ride and transaction! Car was easy and fun to drive, was right where it was supposed to be, there was gas, was clean, barely noticed the dog smell (but it was kinda nice... reminded me of my parent's cars). No complaints... Except it has the fancy thing where you don't need to meet the owner to switch keys, it auto-unlocks with a text. A bit more convenient, but the owner looked cute... I was kinda hoping to meet...
Car was fun to drive (like a cousin to my Ford Focus). I found easy parking near Precita Park. Those are the pluses.
Quibbles would be needing to set up the back seat for passengers (though you did warn me), the aroma of dog (also forwarned...I was fine with it, the kids less so), and the lack of a residential permit (offset by the free Precita Park curb). Thanks for offering up your ride, though.
I won't rent this car again. It's cute and fun to drive, but I don't think the car owner is reliable enough to make sure the car is rental-ready and located where it needs to be parked for renters. Despite the bad review from last fall and since there are some raving reviews these past months, I decided to give it a try, thinking the car owner had fixed what needed to be fixed.
When I arrived to pick up the car, I couldn?t find it. Upon calling Turo, they told me that the car, which was supposed to be parked on 26th and Folsom, was actually parked on 18th and Mariposa, on the other side of the Mission District (15 city blocks and 1 mile away). So much for the .25 mile rule!
Then when I found the car, it didn't have a drop of gas in it. The needle was on EMPTY and the fuel light was on. Fortunately, there were enough gas fumes in the tank to limp it to the gas station three blocks away, burning up another 15 minutes of my time in addition to the 30 minutes I already spent on the phone, walking across the Mission from where the car was suppose to be parked to where the owner left it.
Relays Rides to their credit, sorted the whole thing out with me on the phone with courtesy and efficiency, so I have no complaint with Turo, which is a great service when the car owners participate responsibly.
On top of everything else, the car was dirty with receipts and gum wrappers and general clutter. Compared to the other Turo cars I have rented in the neighborhood, which keep their cars ultra clean, filled with gas, and even place an umbrella in the back seat in case you need it, Stick Shift was a disaster.
To be honest, there?s no amount of cute car sportiness that can compensate for all the location, gas, and cleanliness issues with this car. I'm a pretty flexible person and generally don't complain, but I feel it's my responsibility to other renters on the Turo service to share this experience. I hope Stick Shift can get his act together, but in the meantime, I don't recommend this car or car owner.
Best of the stick shifts in Turo fleet in my opinion. Very responsive. Handles nicely -- and steering is not too heavy. Great leather interior. Also Mazda seats are super comfortable. Unlike Mini Cooper-type bucket seats, these support your back. Two thumbs up!!
Everything I stated to be the problem says it all. The car wasn't completely unbearable for me but I would've appreciate it if the car was more presentable and organized for me to drive. When I entered the car I found a cracked windshield already there before I was, pieces of trash on the floor in both the front and back of the car, owners stuff scattered around the seats/floors, and a gas card was nowhere to be found which resulted in me paying out of my own pocket at the gas station (would've requested reimbursement but I lost the receipt unfortunately).
On a positive note, the car was fun to drive. The stick shift was zippy, smooth, and responsive.
Great to drive but given the hassle and inconvenience for me during the time of my borrowing of this car, I'm probably not going to borrow this car again.
car was fun to drive. l learned a lot from this trip: that brandless gas stations in the Mission as well as the Arco on 14th are not compatible with the gas card. Speaking of which, the gas card is bent to the form of the visor from being exposed to heat, seems to still work with newer magstrip readers but not with older ones.
I F**KING LOVE THIS CAR!!! A special thanks to its owner!!! Sweet deal. This little beaut went with me to conquer Lassen Nation Park, and its neighbor, Thousand Lakes Wilderness. It's flexible; you can fit a lot into it, and it also drives like a sports car -- handles very well. I washed the outside, but honestly was late for work and forgot to wipe down the inside -- I apologize. The owner had cute car games in it, which was nice on my hiking trip. Great sound system with a 6-disk CD changer and an mp3 jack. Thanks again, and I will definitely be renting it again!
