Great experience!

Jillian S.-September 7, 2019

I reserved this car only a couple of hours before I needed it and although it was a little tough to locate (because of construction on the parking lot), it was a great car!

Julie S.-September 2, 2019

This was my first time to use Turo as I only needed a car for a few hours as I few in and out of Denver on the same day. I asked allot of Q’s upfront as I didn’t want any misunderstandings and am used to my Hertz Presidents Circle membership but w/DIA “fees” they wanted $150+ and found an almost new Benz for under $20? No brainer to at least try it. Owner parks his car by all the other rentals so the shuttle (and driver) were awesome and getting there was a breeze. Only issue was that parking lot was being revamped and was closed - so at 6:30am was shuttled to the wrong parking lot. 2nd and more distressing issue now that I look back at all my preflight planning, is there was no location (bay number/location) given me. Just a lot that was closed? So what now? I emailed Turo support (no reply even today - 5 days later!!!!!!!) however the owner left 3 emergency phone numbers on my order summary. At 6:30am I wasn’t expecting much tbh and all 3 rolled to VM. But about 15 mins later Daryl did call my mobile but missed it b/c I’d left it in airplane/silent mode from my flight. He then text me with the new lot and Row # the car was in. Thankfully the Pikes Peak bus driver was kind and cool enough to go row by row by row to try to find the car out of thousands parked with no luck he then passed me off to a supervisor driving around in a SUV who took me to an adjoining lot (I’m guessing the company owns both?) and then Daryl’s text came in, we got the location and he took me directly there and sure enough, there it was. Thank god. So thanks to the Pikes Peak staff and for Daryl responding within 15 mins at the first sign of trouble. The car is slightly dated but as I told him, for $19 I’m not complaining. Drove and functioned very well. He insisted I wash it despite only using it for 4-5 hours so since my appt ended early I went to his wash company (he has a free account there) and washed it and once back at DIA I topped it up for $20 (tank was ⅞ full when I got it and you HAVE to use PREMIUM gas so be prepared for that $$) but that’s all part of renting a Mercedes. Thankfully I didn’t drive all that much but still says I used 4-5 gallons at 40mpg? Just proves the previous renter didn’t fill it full. The other thing is you have to pay Turos insurance + the Pikes Peak parking to EXIT ($8) + wash (time spent finding/doing all that) and refueling w/premium petrol (which I’d do with Hertz’s too so no big deal) however then at the car wash it was halfway thru when I was informed the account had expired last month meaning the car hasn’t been washed in 21 days otherwise he’d known about that - so had to text him the info and phone # and receipt etc but to Daryl’s credit, he rang the car wash within 5 mins and renewed the account and that got paid for (I’m still not sure on a $19 rental with a $25 wash how he makes any money???) but I’m not gonna look at gift horse in the mouth. :) Total expenditures for me were $33 plus $17 for gas and $5 tip so about $60 for the day... 1/2 what Hertz wanted... oh yeah plus Turos Insurance (despite me being covered by Amex Platinum and my own Allstate rental insurance) so Turo needs an option for ppl that have that (decline insurance) - I could have easily given Daryl or should I say this rental experience 2-3 stars but am giving it 5 stars b/c as a fellow business owner”s**t happens” and it’s entirely out of his control so I can’t fault him for that. The other thing that deserves 5 stars is Daryl and his attitude. I truly thought I was stranded in a sea of a thousand parked cars with no “Plan B” but within 30 mins (total) we’d talked on the phone a few times, he located the car in the alternate lot and he walked me thru his Benz as we have the same model but is different b/c it’s a older year and right hand steer in London and some tiny things weren’t working at first but then we figured it out in under a minute. He kept me calm. And he was cool about the situation and didn’t abandon me (I just had major back surgery so flew back to Denver for a check up that’s why I couldn’t hoof it thru a bunch of different parking lots looking for a car) and had to get to my appt by 8am (but I was still late sadly) but they still squeezed me in and out so it all worked out in the end. The car wash thing was a “what next!?” moment - but yet again, Daryl fixed it within 10 mins. Car looked great. Sadly we then sat on the tarmac for 2 hours as thunderstorms rolled thru so that wash went to waste so hopefully the next guy got a freebie seeing as it rained right after it got washed? I dunno. But Daryl is a stand up guy and when everything hit the fan, he came to the rescue - so as already said, he earned those 5 stars. If he’d slated me and left me stranded, I’d be typing an entirely different story and rating but he was super cool under pressure and if Turo ever gets back to me, I MAY consider using their app again. They def need to revisit their tech support, declining insurance (if driver has rental coverage) and where the location of the car is... I had no idea once I got to the lot. Daryl’s instructions were spot on he just didn’t know that the lot was being renovated. Otherwise things went pretty well. I’ve already thanked him offline but that’s my travels and experience in a nutshell. Good car. Great deal. And you know now what to ask for. Good luck. Thanks Daryl- you are the best despite the few bumps! Thank you!
