Brian was super easy to work with and accommodating. The car worked perfectly well, except the front passenger window doesn't open (Brian says he's going to fix that soon). The dedicated parking space in the Castro was very handy!
This car does it’s job - take you from one place to another - rather well (especially on highways, with mileage bit above 30mpg). But expect nothing more - the car is really battered from all sides, it doesn’t drive that well (brakes, steering, weak engine), displays sign "VEHICLE SERVICE SOON" and has a HUGE CRACK across half of the windshield. Really scary. But it took us where we needed and the communication was excellent! Thanks.
Oldie but a Goodie it is! This car has dings and a crack in the windshield, but it runs great and it's super-easy to get in and out via the lockbox. Brian also replies within a couple minutes of receiving any text message, which is great.
This was my first rental. The car wasn't exactly where relay ride said it was, but I finally found it. Now that I understand how this all works and how to find the car, I would definetly rent this car again.
This car is in GREAT shape, performs well and has great baggage capacity.
Returning the car can take more time than you think because of very limited available parking in the neighborhood. I got dinged 15 minutes for the time it took me to find a spot to park this full-sized beauty so be warned.
It's an older car, a bit creaky, but seems to run fine and was perfect for my needs of running a couple of errands around town. Would rent it again. The instant access feature is handy and was a big factor for me.
True to the name, feels old, but it's reliable and got me where I wanted to go at a very reasonable price. Encountered no problems, and it was amazingly easy to re-park in the morning in the neighborhood.
Older car but totally awesome! Sometimes it's nice to just listen to oldies on the radio instead of being so tuned into what's on my iphone. Between my parter and I, we have had this car a few times now and it never disappoints :)
the car rides very well, except there's a bit of a noise (from steering?) when turning on a very slow speed and the car accelerates slow on the highway, so mind that when changing lanes. we cleaned the panel and plastic parts with our own wet sanitary napkins cause those could have been cleaner. otherwise the car did its job really well, the stereo is a big plus. good value for the money
This car has come to the rescue many times before. Its a no frills, but affordable option with 'instant reserve'.
Not to mention Brian is super friendly and accommodating. I stupidly blocked a driveway and ended my reservation. With the keys locked in the car, i called Brian. He was out of town, but managed to remotely unlock the car and extend my reservation so i could move the car to a legit spot. It was a stressful afternoon, but Brian pulled it off. Thanks again! :)
I would rent this car again. I didn't have high expectations for a 2001. I was concerned, however, because the service engine light and change oil lights came on. There was a slight odor. I would suggest putting an air fresher in the car!. All that said, the price was right! Good for running errands.
This is my 5th trip in this Oldsmobile and has always been a good trip for me. Parking in the Castor area after 4 or 5 can be a real pain but have always been able to find parking within 5 minutes. It may be a oldie but it drives and runs very well. Brian the owner is a nice guy as well.
The car was very dirty when I picked it up. There were several items left behind in it: a couple of water bottles, some clothes (??), and some trash. I had to take it home, clean it out, and vacuum it so that it would be at least somewhat presentable.
STILL BEST BET FOR AFFORDABLE RELIABLE AND SIMPLE IN THE CASTRO. ALSO, HAD ISSUE WHERE I NEEDED TO DEAL WITH THE OWNER A COUPLE WEEKS AGO AND HE WAS VERY VERY NICE AND HELPFUL, EVEN WHEN I WAS DISTURBING HIM DURING A WEEKEND OUT-OF-TOWN TRIP.
Totally great car. Not my style, but definitely still cool. Rear view mirrors are those old school "objects in mirror look closer than they appear" ones (even though they don't say that). Most importantly: it drives smooth and fast!
This listing was a life saver. I needed a flexible rental and a reliable car and this listing really came through. As it was my first time using this service, I really found it convenient and affordable.
Love this car, and for the price, its the best kept secret in available car-shares in the Castro! Only complaint is that the text I got right before the reservation started gave me the location of the car about 6 blocks from the actual address of where it was parked. Not huge deal, but cut my time with the car by an hour. However, I rented the car many times before and never had a problem. It's a deal.
Loved the ride. Thank you! This car rocks. I was skeptical at first. But it was awesome. Just a note on pick/up return I had mapped the 4041 address the night prior, but then I got a text that gave me a different address and I was like, "umm where is that?" So, I had to call customer service, and they were awesome, they gave me on foot directions on how to get to the car, which turns out was just around the corner.
I reserved this car for a longer trip out of town and it quickly became uncomfortable to drive. The driver seat is slightly tilted on one side and my back started to hurt after an hour or so. If you just need it for quick trips in the city it would probably be fine.
Also the stereo is described as "awesome". To me, being it the year 2012, an awesome stereo lets you at least plug an ipod into it. This has just a stock AM/FM/CD stereo with stock speakers. I dont own a single CD so the music situation on my trip out of town was a bit of a bummer.
Not to say its not a good deal though! It's the most affordable per-day car in my neighborhood. I just thought these details should be noted for the next driver.
Most excellent ride! Took her around the sunset on some errands and drove great, tank was about 3/4 full when I got and was so pleased with the ride and process filled 'er up well past that on the return, thanks Brian!
It certainly was not fancy (and the windshield was a little bit dirty), but it got me where I needed to go and back with zero hassle. The key was a bit tricky to find (small center console) and the "service needed" light was on. Re-parking it in the designated area was not as bad as I feared it would be. I didn't drive it far, so knowing how much to re-fuel was tricky (but that's really more of a Turo problem). I would happily rent this car again.
The car was very clean and easy to find. You can tell it's an old car when you're driving it around, but it still ran smoothly. I was really amazed by how easy and convenient it was to reserve, unlock, and return the car with just my iphone.
The car was easy to pick up and was very clean. Ran good and was easy to drive and all the power option worked. This is a nice car and was nice to drive. Thank you Brian for letting me rent your lovely car. I will be renting again.
Great, reliable car at a really great price. Street parking in Castro is sometimes difficult, but with such a large area where it is ok to park this car, it was no problem at all to find a space. It smelled like fabric softener dryer sheets are used as air freshener so when I got into the car after it was in the sun, it was like snuggling into a warm towel direct from the dryer. Mmmmmm.
I miss Oldsmobile (one of the oldest American car manufacturers, the badge was phased out by 2005), so driving this 2004 Alero was a kick for me. Alas, I only did a few errands, including a trip to the grocery store. Would have liked to take a road trip and tool down the freeway. But this hot-red number drove just fine around town. Car has seen some miles, but it was sturdy and easy to maneuver. Driver's seat and steering wheel were easy to adjust. Parking was a bit of a challenge when my rental was over, but I managed. I would rent the Red Alero again.
The owner was really helpful when it took me a few minutes to find the car. (It was within the range the text stated, I had just missed seeing it.) It smelled good inside, like dryer sheets. I would definitely get this ride again.
On March 2 I went to pick up this car from the location stated by text. It's only a couple blocks away from my house. I never found it. I went up and down both the street stated via email and text sent to me by Turo and the ones that intersected. It's an obvious car that i have driven once before so I am familiar with the car but couldnt find it. I called Turo but for 18 minutes got a recording saying how important my phone call was to Turo, but they could never take it. I gave up but was charged regardless of not moving the car cause i never found it.
Note to self: Finding street parking in a popular neighborhood on a beautiful Saturday can take time! It took me 30 minutes and I had to park outside the 1/4 mile zone. That's the price of living in the 'hood. Don't tell my friends - they all think I have magical parking karma. lol.
gave myself plenty of time to park on return because of the area; but found a spot w/n 10 minutes. Just lucky I guess. It would be helpful if the map of area for parking were already marked with unavailable metered areas; but that's a wishlist item for Turo. Thanks Oldie!
Car smells a bit from the air freshener, but at least it doesn't smell nasty. (I put the air freshener away while I've got the car and it helps quite a bit). This car runs great, is near where I live and has an Area S parking permit. I look forward to using it again soon. - Jim
