I have for rental a 2011 Nissan Leaf. This is a 100% ELECTRIC car-- not a traditional gas/electric hybrid. In the eco-drive mode (which is easy to access), you can get about 40 miles on the highway or 65 miles in the city. Your actual mileage will vary with how "hard" you drive the car. This isn't the car for long road trips, but if you have access to a standard 110V outlet either outside or in a garage, you can re-charge the car with the included charging cable and get more mileage. Heck-- you can even just rent this car to try out a fully electric car to see what one is like before purchasing.
One warning-- the radio/iPod dock does not work in this car. There's an issue with the navigational system that prevents them from functioning. My dealership is ordering in parts to try to fix this, but at this time, there's no way to play music in the car.
The car is clean and free of any strong smells. There is a small dent on the front passenger side, but nothing that affects the functioning of the car.
