I was very unhappy with WILLIS’s Jaguar X-Type. The Jaguar looked snazzy in the picture, but actually the transmission did not shift well from first to second. It was not only NOT sporty, but it was outright dangerous because there wasn't good pickup when acceleration was needed. Furthermore, the windshield wiper knob was fallen off, and a screw was in its place, and you had to operate the windshield wiper with a screw. This was not intuitive, so the first day of my rental, I couldn't get the wipers to turn off. I put them on intermittent, and the whole time I was driving the wipers were going every 35 seconds.
Willis seemed apologetic about this situation at first. He said there hadn't been enough time between rentals to fix the car. However, I don't think he was really sorry. He was out to make as much money as possible on the car, rather than provide a nice driving experience. Because afterwards, he still did not fix the car, but booked it with another driver only a four hours after I was supposed to return it. He should have blocked out the calendar for a day to allow for repairs, but he did not.
Furthermore, when he booked the car so tightly, then when I needed an extension of time, he could not give it to me. So I returned the car 3.5 hours late, and was charged a whopping TWO HUNDRED DOLLAR LATE FEE!!!!! He would not lower the fee when I objected. I also found out that Turo does not insure the car during a late period.
So the rental fee of $107 for 3 days seemed like a deal, but when you add on the TWO HUNDRED DOLLAR LATE FEE, and the inconvenience of having to go to WILLIS' house to pick up the car, the poor maintentance/running condition of the car, and the inflexibility of the schedule ie not being able to get an extension when I needed it, it certainly wasn't worth it. The $307 certainly could have been better spent. For $194 I could have rented a car from Enterprise for an entire week, had it delivered to me, had the car in perfect working condition, and washed between drivers, had insurance even I I kept the car a little late, had roadside assistance, and had the flexibility of keeping the car a little longer.
Renting from Turo seemed like a cool idea, but it turned out to be a very bad mistake. I would never rent from WILLIS again, or from any Turo. The people who rent their cars are not really renting their personal vehicles. They apparently buy an extra trash car for making money on, and care very little about service or the quality of your driving experience. The whole time I was driving WILLIS's Jaguar, I was nervous that the transmission would go out entirely, or the windshield wipers would break, and I would be responsible for it.
Is there a way to give negative stars? If I could, I would give my experience MINUS five stars.
When I accepted the vehicle it was clean but as I started the engine I noticed that the 'Check Engine" light was illuminated, the owner was not there to speak with personally so I headed out towards my destination. I then was able to reach the owner on the telephone once I got home and asked about the check engine light, he replied "It had been on for about 3 years, it's just the O2 sensor," regardless of what the cause was, why havnt you taken the vehicle into an auto shop to get serviced or inspected??? Seriously?! Three years that light has been on?? I would never rent from Willis again, he obviously doesn't take care of his vehicle(s) who knows the next person to rent from him carries a far greater risk of breaking down or being involved in an accident due to vehicle negligence.
Willis is one of the nicest men to work with. I highly recommend renting his Jaguar. I rented the car for a month, while my car was in the shop, and thoroughly enjoyed using his vehicle. The car was clear, well taken care of, and incredibly comfortable. Willis went out of he is way on several occasions to asset me, not only with renting the car, but with any questions I had during the month. The car is well worth the value and the money. It's beautiful, drives well, and definitely a great ride. If you are looking to rent from a great person, a great automobile, this is the car for you. I totally would come back to rent from Willis again, if I had the need.
This was a great option for us. Super convenient, hassle free, and saved us over $100 (compared to rental car reservations via Kayak, Priceline, etc.). The request process was easy through the app, Willis responded very quickly, and the payment and account creation was simple and fast. Willis met us curbside outside baggage claim, and we hopped in the car and were on our way. So much better than waiting in line at the rental counters and going through the process of them trying to up sell you. The car was very clean and smelled nice. It was old and had some dings and scuffs here in there, but was overall in good condition and was certainly fairly priced. The night before drop off, Willis sent us a reminder and we sent him our flight info, made plans on leaving the car in the terminal garage, and we did so in the morning. Willis was easy to work with and very nice. We would absolutely use this again to save time, stress, and money. And one last note on the money saving -- we would have had to pay significantly more to rent the cheapest economy car from any rental place. Instead, we rode around in a Jag, and although old and used, it looks nice and was comfortable. We highly recommend it!
