The owner (Kevin) is very responsive. Thank you for your flexibility. I wasn't certain how long I would need the car for and I extended so often that I ended up renting Kevin's 2003 525i for nearly 2 months. It's a great value. The handling is great for a vehicle that is 12 years old and 108,000 miles. It's no wonder that the 5-series may be one of the greatest engineered cars! The tires appea new and have great tread depth. The brakes are sharp. If you can overlook the cosmetic damage on the front right bumper, the left rear driver side bumper, and the worn interior front seats, and you are interested in reliable transportation, then this is the ride for you. I wanted to address some criticism by other reviewers. While there are indeed some warning lights that appear on the dash, for instance, "check brake lights", I did not find this annoying. It actually helped me to remind me to switch off the headlights each time the car was parked because cars of this age don't have automatic headlights. My use of the car was all local mileage with one trip from the peninsula to the city. The freeway ride was quiet and comfy. If you plan to use the car on the freeway and you are a fan of cruise control, then be aware this cruise control does not operate. Kevin leaves a jug of coolant fluid in the trunk. This is good if the coolant fluid level needs to be added because according to web blogs, all 2003 5-series have a known manufacturing defect involving slow coolant fluid leaks. Lastly, in the spirit of full disclosure, the car's speedometer sometimes does not operate. Easy fix. If this happens upon start-up and you notice it shortly after driving off, then pull over and restart the car and the speedometer will come back to life. Again, overall, I was thrilled to have this car for nearly 2 months and I would definitely have confidence to rent it again because it's solidly engineered, because Kevin is great to work with, and because I am able to overlook cosmetic flaws. Thanks so much Kevin!!!
I had a great time with this car. I took it from LA to Napa Valley, as well as several places along the way. It was very cozy and comfortable while still providing a sporty BMW feel. It gave us no problems at all, even along the curvy coast route (CA 1). The owner made it very simple so if you want a very easy experience, pick this one.
