This is an excellent mountain car—it's all-wheel-drive, and has snow traction tires. Its years of service in the California Sierras and in Montana have given it some inevitable dents and knocks. I've had to patch over and seal up that back right window as shown in the photo, and that door is dis-functional. But I have now put a porthole window in, which improves the visibility—see the photos.
This is the best car I've ever had (or driven) for snow and/or icy conditions, it's the one I feel safe in. That's why I keep it roadworthy, even though it does have over 300,000 miles on it. The AWD and dedicated snow tires allow it to travel in snow conditions without requiring chains. The car is no longer pretty, no fancy features, but it has good road feel, decent heater and defroster. 24-27mpg. Renter must be comfortable with 5-speed stick shift standard transmission.
CD player doesn't work, but the cassette player does, and it accepts an adapter to play your portable device through the car speakers. I keep one of these adapters in the car that you can use (but I don't guarantee it will work with your device). The radio controls sometimes work, sometimes not, don't count on it.
Regarding pickup arrangements—this car is located in Colfax, California, which is on Interstate 80, 60 miles east of the Sacramento airport and 70 miles west of the Reno, NV airport—so it is not very convenient to either. Pickups at either airport are possible, but contact me early to make arrangements, 3 days lead time is best.
I'd prefer to serve local renters though, and hope to connect with folks who may need the use of a car just one or two days/week, regularly (as I do). Please contact me with any questions.
