The 2015 Passat has a choice of three engines. The 1.8T powered Trade Winds come with a 170hp turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, either a 5-speed manual or an optional 6-speed automatic. TDI models are powered by a 150 hp 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine, while the top 3.6-litre V6 Passat models come with a 280 hp VR6 6-cylinder engine. Both the TDI and VR6 engines only come with a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission that delivers remarkably fast gear changes. The 1.8L model is designed to save fuel while maintaining the performance levels customers are accustomed to. It gets 28 mpg, two better than the old 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine used in pre-2014 cars. VR6 is the best performance choice in the line; it is particularly strong, smooth and responsive. But the TDI has the potential to bring a smile to many faces; with an EPA highway fuel economy rating of 43 mpg and an amazing 236 lb-ft of peak torque, meaning this engine is also capable of making highway driving and long climbs a breeze. The large interior of the new Passat is spacious and feels spacious, and the dashboard is designed to give the driver and front seat passenger the most room. The back seat is very spacious - with enough head and legroom for most adults - getting in and out is easy. In all model ranges, the Passat comes with a 60/40 split folding rear seat. All Passat models are equipped with six standard airbags, including side airbags that protect front and rear passengers, as well as standard electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes and hydraulic brake booster.
