The booking process for Kenneth’s car through Turo wasn’t a problem. I am curious as to why the rental rate was so high (?), and my only explanation would be that I booked about a week out from my trip? Pick up for the car went easy and Kenneth pointed out driving options within the vehicle (sport, eco, normal mode) and where the paperwork/registration was. The car did give a lag every time you would let off the break to accelerate after stopping. So at each stop light I would gas to accelerate but it would take a second to go, making for some awkward/irritated faces of drivers behind me. I also had a HUGE issue managing to drive the car up the mountain on a road that wasn’t too steep. I would press my foot all the way down to accelerate and would get pretty much nothing. The Nissan wouldn’t go over 25mph for about a mile or two. This caused for a backup of cars behind us and we finally managed to get off on the side of the road and turn the car off and on to allow for it to cool down. We Googled & YouTubed the heck out of it and couldn’t find any help, so we called/texted Kenneth and he offered to have it towed. It was a big disappointment as we were traveling to a hiking destination that was hopefully going to be a highlight of the trip and we were no longer able to go. We ended up turning the car around and heading back down the mountain to a new hiking spot. This issue was never resolved but also didn’t happen again. The only thing we changed when going up another steep mountain road a few days later was cutting the AC before hand in hopes that the engine would have more power to stay cool. Kenneth told us over the phone that he just had the car in the shop for transmission work and shared the price of the work, but this info wasn’t helpful in our moment of frustration and disappointment with the cars inability to take us to our destination. I wouldn’t rent this car to drive back into the mountains, only for city cruising. Lastly, the morning of my final rental day I paid for a car wash and I vacuumed out the Juke’s interior because it was pretty dusty from our trail walking. I returned the car in the same condition I picked it up...fully gassed, freshly washed & vacuumed. Later that night Kenneth messaged me and submitted a $15 charge for COVID Cleaning which was never mentioned up front. The transparency with that was zero. This cleaning fee wasn’t because I returned a dirty car, it was because of an ongoing 5 month pandemic that should have been an additional price communicated early on while I booked the vehicle. I expect this from a airport rental company, not from a Turo rental. The hefty price I paid for the rental, the cars lack of ability to do its job to take me up the mountain and zero compensation from the Renter for this big issue, and then the out of no where, additional after charge for cleaning, is why I took this car from a 4 star (good but had an issue) to a 3 star (disappointing) rating.
