Description

Read the guidelines. Also, check my profile for booking rules. I won't feel bad about cancelling your trip last minute if you've violated them, so it's in your interest to cooperate. Chevy Volt Premium, Bose sound system, backup camera and navigation. This car is optimized for individual ownership, running electric for the daily commute and on the gas generator for highway trips. I thought it might not be great for Turo renters. But it's actually pretty cool that you can manage the battery state of charge better than any other hybrid. Doing mountain passes in Western Mass or Vermont, you can fill the battery as you descend and use up the power as you climb the hills. That's difficult to manage properly with my other hybrids, they fill the battery too quickly and you lose regenerative braking on the descent. The drivetrain has two electric motors and a 1.4L gas engine that can connect in various configurations via a planetary gearset, one of the most novel engineering designs I've seen. In the main mode, a brake holds the ring fixed while the big motor drives the sun gear and the planets drive the wheels. At higher speeds, the smaller motor drives the ring gear to run in series and keep the big motor rpm from rising too high. To extend the range, the small motor will disconnect from the ring and connect to the engine to act as a generator. And for highway speeds, a clutch will reconnect the small motor (along with the engine) to the ring gear so now the engine and small motor are driving the ring and the big motor drives the sun. Power variations are achieved by varying small motor current and speed variations achieved by varying big motor speed, which is why the gas engine remains at a fairly constant speed and load even in highway driving. Understanding how it works explains why when you floor the pedal, it pauses for a split second to reconfigure the clutches and then takes off with both motors putting out the full ~150hp. It also helps you understand why running Hold mode or Mountain mode on the highway makes more sense. At higher speeds, both the ring and sun need to turn to drive the planets, so it's a good time to fire up the gas engine and not lose energy to charging and discharging or sending electricity around. This car uses the EZ-Pass transponder number 02104797873. Please confirm the transponder number before your trip.

Awesome experience. Car ran smoothly, and host was very kind when I forgot to refuel the battery.

Réponse de Charvak

Just to clarify, guests don't need to recharge the battery for return, but just add a little extra gasoline to make up for the lost battery range.
