2022 Ram 1500 TRX This truck is a unicorn—a muscle-bound, barrel-chested, ground-pawing, snorting racehorse of a unicorn. There is no other truck on the road like the TRX. Stuffed between the truck’s bulging fenders and below its scooped hood is a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi v-8 engine, aptly named the Hellcat. This particular version produces 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, which is sent to all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. The TRX announces its presence with a deep, earth-shaking rumble. It will go from zero to 60 in 4.5 seconds. It is, however, more than the truck world’s preeminent muscle car. With a sumptuous, tech-rich cabin, it’s also indisputably a luxury vehicle. This supercharged monstrosity is practically bullet proof. Its gargantuan all-terrain tires contribute to the truck’s 11.8 inches of ground clearance. It comes with enough underbody plating to protect a Brink’s truck, making it impervious to rocks, sand and other road detritus. With all that armor, it’s astonishing how well the TRX handles on smooth pavement, even winding mountain roads. Bilstein shock absorbers render body roll and brake dive nearly non- existent. The well-crafted, spacious interior accommodates five people in big, comfortable bucket seats, which are heated and covered in black leather. Ditto for the steering wheel. Headroom in both the front and back is exceptional. Technology in the cabin is designed to be attractive and easy to use. The digital screen between the easily readable dashboard gauges is simple to control with logically placed buttons. The truck’s elegant-looking 12-inch vertically oriented infotainment touchscreen allows the driver to stack two readouts on a single screen.
