RENTERS BEWARE I rented a 2017 GLE 400 from Quinton. Let me start with the positives: Quinton was very responsive, and generally good to deal with. The vehicle was more or less as stated. This was a family vacation starting in Toronto with travel throughout Southern Ontario, which was largely uneventful until I discovered a leak in one of the tires that ultimately needed replacing. Upon inspection, the vehicle was unsafe due to a bald tire that had been previously repaired. For brevity here are the key points: 1) I called the host, informed him the tire needed to be changed and he refused to pay for it. His solution was to have the repair shop put the emergency spare tire on and have me drive it approximately 2 hours on the 401 back to his shop, which is unsafe given the specification for the spare is not to exceed 50Km. His alternative was to collapse the trip and have Turo tow the vehicle back and in effect leave me stranded in cottage country with my family. He ended by saying he was too busy to deal with this and gave me the Turo support number. 2) If you have issues with the car and call Turo support, although they are generally well trained in customer service, are polite, and ask all the right questions, they are generally useless in resolving the issue if not in a major city. They will put you on hold endlessly for 2-3 minutes while they check with their customer support team, but in my experience they have no decision rights whatsoever. And every decision has to be reviewed with the host, which makes sense unless the host doesn't respond as was the case with Quinton.. I asked to speak to a manager, or someone in Canada, and Turo support always indicated they were too busy, in meetings, or that the Canadian CEO doesn’t take phone calls from customers. Upon reflection, there is no real compelling reason for the host or Turo to resolve the issue unless they receive a negative review. 3) Turo may be useful for short trips in a city, but beware if you are on a time crunch or have to travel far. You can refuse the vehicle due to safety, but that is hard to do when in a dark airport parking lot checking tread depth. If you do refuse then you are left scrambling to secure an alternate ride. 4) Regarding insurance, check your credit card and other insurance coverages before renting. I brought the vehicle to the repair shop for inspection and repair, and this is where the headaches began. Normally a tire repair is a simple thing to do, if there is enough tread to do so. It turned out the inside of the tire was completely bald, which is very hard to see on visual inspection without the tire being removed. Now the real headaches begin. The customer service reps are very good, of the 5 or so I have spoken with; throughout my experience most are in Columbia and have been well trained, except they put you on hold constantly to check with their "support team". 3 reps later when they realized an Uber or Turo replacement in Minden, Ontario was not available, I figured the least offensive option was to pay the $487 to replace the tire rather than being stranded hours away from any rental options. It took about 6 hours of back and forth with turo reps (one ended his shift and never returned the call as promised, the second ended his shift but a third did return the call - thanks Maria and my apologies for being so abrupt with you). it took 2 days to source and replace the tire. I asked Turo for a refund for the two days that the car was inoperable, but gave up after the third call when Camillo confirmed that they had no record of my previous requests. I normally don't leave reviews, and I certainly don't like leaving negative ones, but what irked me the most was the risk I placed upon my family by driving on an unsafe tire on a high speed highway, and in rather remote places. Eventually Quinton agreed to reimburse me for the tire rather than filing a claim. I have spoken to Turo 3 times now since the trip ended to voice my safety concerns and to speak to a manager. The Canadian CEO apparently doesn't take calls, and the managers refuse to take my call. The last person said he would send me an e-mail but I will be surprised if this happens. All in all a very disappointing and extremely frustrating ending from what I thought would be an interesting experience!

This is my second time renting from Quinton and all I have to say is that he will always take care of you. Had a contactless key pick up and drop off and the car was spotless as expected. Overall communication was perfect. And I’ll definitely come back again. Thanks again Quinton!

Quinton's response

Hey buddy didn’t even realize that was you man. Thank you very much again and thanks for the review. I apologize not for not recognizing you.
