The 2014 Panamera Turbo features a potent 4.8-litre, twin-turbocharged V-8 under its long hood. Porsche’s automobiles are designed for performance, so it should come as no surprise that this engine puts out a healthy 520-horsepower and 512 lb.-ft. of torque. it also be fitted with the Sport Chrono Package, which boosts torque levels to a stump-pulling 568 lb.-ft! This is more than enough power to motivate this 2,070 kilogram cruise ship from 0-100 km/h in a mere 4.0 seconds! The engine/exhaust note, the power, the tungsten feel of the thing … it always has been and remains remarkably fun to drive, and an uppercut-to-the-jaw, three-dimensional reminder to never judge a car by its skin. The jet-fighter-esque interior still works, and despite the at-first-glance nausea-inducing button array on the center console, everything makes sense and is easy to find and use. Spend even just a day in the Panamera Turbo and you'll be familiar, easily, with at least 90 percent of its switchgear. That's no small feet of ergonomic and intuitive engineering/layout. Handling? It is likewise remarkable for a 4,800-pound, all-wheel-drive car. Certainly you never think you're in a new 911, never mind Cayman or Boxster, but there is real sporting purpose here to a degree that something like, oh say, Aston Martin's Rapide does not deliver. Importantly, I never feel as though Porsche has executed big performance compromises in the name of finding a way to build a four-door saloon car. Except, you know, for the styling
