Description

The car is recently refurbished with a new convertible top and new tires. It is parked 1/4 mile from a CalTrain station so it is very easy to pick up. This is a second car and it's in great condition with low mileage (about 50K). This is the ideal way to experience northern California so I thought I'd list it and let other people enjoy the fun of driving a Porsche to wine country or the beach. The car has four seats but the rear seats are very small. I look forward to hearing from you, -Peter

Faqs

  • Trouble starting?

The driver floor mat can slip forward and prevent the clutch from touching the floor directly. You probably won't notice this with your foot but the car won't start (or turnover) if the clutch doesn't make that connection. If that happens, pull back the floor mat or just pull it out and toss it in the back seat.

  • Locked steering wheel?

The steering wheel has the Porsche lock. It only engages when the key is out and the wheel turns. If it engages, put the key in and turn the wheel to the left or right while turning the key and a little finesse will release the lock.

  • Second Gear slips

When the car is in second gear and hand is not on the shifter, the shifter may slip into neutral. The issue has been reviewed by a mechanic who recommended tightening next time the transmission is serviced but there's no safety issue with the vehicle.

Not 5 stars only because I'd want you to read this review. This is a 20 yr old car so it's got some squeaks and rattles and a few quirks which Peter knows about and is trying to get resolved. But these shouldn't dampen your enjoyment. Overall car drives great as expected (take it from a former Porsche owner). It's rare to find a manual 911 on Turo, so that alone is worth putting up with any quirks and the general patina of a sports car that's been driven. If you want to impress a date, this isn't the right car. If you want to get lost on the back roads of the north coast, this IS the car.

The 996 is an awesome car! Very engaging much like the 997!

Renting Peter’s Porsche 911 convertible was a great experience. She’s got some miles on her, but for a 20 year old car still drives well. Porsche really builds their cars to last. If you’re looking to experience a classic 996 model you won’t be disappointed. This car is raw and mechanical, a true sports car and some believe the last pure 911. Peter is a great host. Pickup and drop off were easy and he was extremely responsive. Overall a wonderful experience!

I spent a week with Peter’s 911. I adored it. I kept looking for excuses to go for a drive. If you have never had a chance to drive a manual, convertible 911, do yourself a favor and try it. Oh, and Peter was great too ;)

Peter's response

Thanks Jeff, was to was my pleasure! -Peter

Peter’s 911 was a dream come true and a must for anyone trying to experience the Bay Area! The car drives perfectly and made the trip. Peter was great to work with and flexible when returning the car.
