I write this with mixed feelings.
The MB was clean, had 1/2 tank of gas and Carolyn’s request was return it with equal amount. Carolyn was easy to talk with but became a bit “edgy” when I requested what level of insurance she had from Turo on the car.
We rented the car for 13 days with an allocation of 2600 miles before an additional charge of $.50/mile would take place. We only drove the car around 850 miles leaving a buffer of about 1700 miles.

Much to my surprise came a statement from Turo for an over mileage of 46 miles. I had taken pics of the odometer at the beginning and at the end of the rental contract which indicated the mileage used.

My first impression was that the charge was a scam and not from either Carolyn or Turo. I went to my Turo app and it had come from them because Carolyn had initiated the overage on the miles. Total amount came to just about $26.00. With a buffer of over 1700 miles I was shocked at the change!

When I confronted both Carolyn and Turo, Carolyn got a bit defensive and stated that it was “an honest mistake “ and Turo responded by asking me to dispute the claim which I did with the before and after odometer photos. With that in there hands I can only imagine that they contacted Carolyn for clarification which got the charge reversed.

My takeaway: I had to have a tire repaired because of a slow leak and then discovered that the tires were worn sufficiently that they should have been replaced. Carolyn indicated to me that she had 8 (eight) vehicles that she was renting out through Turo and she was aware of the need for replacement but that Turo kept renting the car and she didn’t have time to get the services done!

One would think that Turo would set a minimum standard of safety inspections for the cars that they rent through their agency.

Would I use Turo again…yes but a lot wiser and get more involved in getting info on the car in question.

Life happens and yes I made a mistake and corrected it immediately.
In spite of being bullied and harassed for $23, and later learning that Marvin was a victim of a scammers, his displaced anger was taken out on me. I reminded him to how I went over and beyond for his trip.
Lesson to be learned “you can’t please people all the time and to ignore the PRIVILEGED attitude.”
He’s wife is a beautiful soul.
