Faqs

  • What is the total range of the Nissan Leaf SV Plus?

The Nissan literature puts the Nissan Leaf SV Plus at 215 miles. This car is the extended-mileage version and by using the ECO button, range is increased. There is also regenerative braking so depending on topography, the battery can charge during descents, which increases mileage. Lastly, if the air conditioning is lowered or turned off an extra 50 miles can be achieved.

  • Can you drive from one side of the Big Island to the other - and back - on one charge?

The quick answer is "yes" - you can definitely drive from one side of the island to the other and back with lots of mileage to spare! Kailua Kona on the West coast is about 77 miles from Hilo on the East coast. A round-trip of 150 miles leaves about 75 miles on a single charge. Remember, there are car charging points in both cities, so recharging can also be topped up while stopping for lunch or shopping downtown. Lastly, a mobile charging station is included in the trunk of the car, so if you stop for the night along the way, you can charge when you stop to have a fully-charged battery the next morning. Trying to circumnavigate the Island WILL require you to recharge along the way.

  • How long does it take to "fill" an electric car's battery?

It depends on what type of charger you use. Public chargers can take from 40 minutes to 6 hours for a 0-80% charge depending on the plug used an power output of the charging station. A trickle charge from your Airbnb or rental household plug would take 12 or more hours while using the 240v plug (used by clothes dryers and ovens) takes about 12 hours.

  • What insurance should I have?

Be sure to choose the BEST insurance you can when renting this car. It will save you peace of mind during your trip and headaches in the unfortunate case you have an accident. Your private insurance policy, as well as Credit Card insurance plans, often will not cover peer-to-peer car sharing like Turo (as opposed to traditional car rent like Hertz, Avis, etc...).

  • Can I charge it from my vacation rental?

If there is an outlet within 15 ft of where you can park the car then yes you can charge it in a regular household socket, we provide the adapter with the car. If you will parked further than that then we have the extension cord listed as an extra!
