Hybrid (Regular)

Our hybrid Cmax gives the option of driving on both gas (450+ miles per tank) and electricity (20 miles per 6 hrs of charging). Plus, it’s roomy enough to comfortably fit 5 with luggage but also small enough to squeeze into tight downtown Charleston street parking and cruise the skinny lanes in historic areas of town without getting too close for comfort to street parked cars and drivers in neighboring lanes. It’s a smooth and zippy ride that’s easy to handle with lots of upgrades like leather heated seats, Apple CarPlay, easy to use touch screen entertainment interface, and 110v household electrical plug in located next to the backseat AC vent. For pick up at the airport, if self check in through the app rather than in person is done, the vehicle will be parked in one of the paid airport garages or lots and renter will be responsible for paying parking fee to exit the lot. *Charging docks available at various locations around the city or charger available as an “extra” under “Prepaid EV recharge” upon rental. I’d love to include the charger free of cost, but unfortunately Turo won’t cover cost of replacement if it is lost.

Prepaid EV recharge
This “extra” listing is for the EV charger. I’d love to include it for free but unfortunately Turo does not include coverage for it if it is lost or damaged. An AirTag is attached to the charger which you may notice if you have an iPhone.
US$50/trip
Pet fee
Pets are welcome in our vehicle at an additional charge as our old dog Bear has taught us fur can take some extra effort to clean up. A dog hammock for the back seat will be included with this extra so your furry friend can ride in comfort.
US$50/trip
Prepaid refuel
Save time, make drop-off a breeze, and avoid additional fees by adding this Extra, which allows you to return my car at any fuel level. Price includes up to a full tank of gas.
US$50/trip
For free pickup at our home, the vehicle will be parked out front in our driveway. Depending on time of day and guest preference pickup can be self check in or done in person. For delivery to the airport or other locations, pickup/drop off plans will be arranged with guest prior to trip dates.
Where/how do I charge the car if I don’t rent your charger as an “extra”?
There are chargers located around the downtown area, typically in city parking garages, and some in other areas of town too. Here is the city’s website on EV charging stations with an interactive map to easily locate your closest station. https://www.charleston-sc.gov/1579/Electric-Vehicle-Charging-Stations Keep in mind, not all vehicles with charging capability use the same charger type. For instance, Teslas typically use a different connector type on their chargers so a Tesla specific charging station likely will not be compatible with our Cmax. On the map linked above, the charger type for each station is notated. Our Cmax uses a “Type 1” charger (also called “J plug” or J1772). Many of the city chargers are free to use (though you may have to pay for parking itself if your timing is outside of the evening free parking hours notated on city garage signage). Just push the charger cover door next to the driver side mirror to pop the port open and plug the charger in—it will start charging on its own and takes about 6 hours to get from no charge to full 20 miles of electric capability.
“Key not detected” message on dash
On rare occasions, the C max won’t detect that the key fob is in the vehicle and will not start. When this happens, you hold the key fob on the indention on the steering wheel column so that the chip in the fob is directly next to the chip detector And press the push button start as shown in the link video below. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=D7G9drXRyWk
How do I know if the car is running?
As a hybrid vehicle, the engine in the C max is extremely quiet when it’s running. Your foot must be on the brake when you press the push button start for the engine to turn on. When the engine is running, there is a little green light on the dash next to the gauge clusters in the shape of a car. If you press the push button start and the light does not come on just put your foot on the brake and press the button again. From time to time, people will think the engine is running when it’s really just the car that is on and shift into drive but find the car will not move. Double check that the green light is on and if it is not, you must put the car back in park, put your foot on the brake, and press the push button start which should start the vehicle.
