Description

This Chevy Sonic is the prefect car for couples or small groups looking for something that is safe, fuel efficient, and economical for those long road trips in Alaska. It is sporty and fun to drive, and handles corners like a champ. The auxiliary input will keep your favorite Spotify playlist blasting in the land of the midnight sun. Although it doesn’t get too dark up here during the summer, an aftermarket LED light bar will keep the road illuminated and make sure you are extra safe on the highway.

We rented Jon's car for several day hiking trips around Anchorage. It served our purposes very well. It was in fine shape, and Jon was friendly and easy to work with.

Car is very old (~125k miles) and many buttons (ex. a/c) don’t work. Would not trust on a longer trip, but fine if you just need to run some errands around town. Way too expensive for what it is.

Jon's response

-The A/C button works. The fan needs to be turned on before the A/C can be turned on. -As far as the car being old, the listing states the correct age of the vehicle, so that should not be something to give a poor rating on. -Reliability- the previous renter had the car for a full month. They drove it far out of town and back, without any mechanical issues. -As far as the price goes, this is one of the cheaper cars in the local market. Enterprise was charging people $400 a day in June.

Great little car that helped me in a pinch, with most of these 4 stars being deserved for Jon, the great host. Car is a low end sedan, and being old, comes with few bells and whistles. The car's HVAC gives up on you after a bit of driving. (for example when you're doing Anchorage<>Seward and the 7pm angled summer sun is heating your car up thoroughly and the A/C just stops pushing any air, even warm). Some things that I'm not factoring in this rating: The wiper fluid was out (though honestly that's an easy fix) from the get go. The windshield is cracked (apparently common in Alaska) The remote's battery was low or something that would mean that it wouldn't lock/unlock from a distance many times (but would work some of the times) The host, as gracious as they are, priced it competitively with the market. This car was over USD 120/day in the summer and with a 30day discount came to 85/day but hot damn... I understand that's just supply and demand economics in action, and hence the price isn't a factor in my rating.
