Managing trips

Hosting on Turo is different to hosting on other platforms. Turo hosts go above and beyond, with 96% of all rated trips in AU this year rated with five stars. The quality experience provided by Turo hosts helps ensure guests keep returning and drive more bookings through word of mouth.

On Turo, guests don’t book by the hour. Over a decade of data from the Turo marketplace has shown that longer trips are more profitable, less risky, and often easier for hosts, so the platform promotes long-duration trips with discounts and distance limits.

Key handoff hands

Key handoff options

Turo hosts can use three different methods to hand keys off to guests.

In-person key handoff: Hosts meet their guests face-to-face at the agreed-upon location — hosts can charge guests to bring the car to them.

Lockbox: Guest licences are verified remotely through the app before the trip.

Remote unlock technology: Turo has partnered with Linkey to offer a semi-integrated remote solution.

Key information for Turo hosts

  • Model year 2013 and newer, with exceptions made for specialty and classic vehicles
  • 200km maximum odometer reading
  • No insurance write-offs
  • Passenger vans up to 10 seats allowed

Delivering vehicles

Hosts can offer delivery to travel hubs or custom locations and set their own prices, up to a limit of $120, for the service.

Key handoff options
  • In-person key handoff by default
  • Physical lockbox left at property or near car allowed. Currently, Turo does not have a recommended lockbox provider
  • Currently, no integrated remote access solution. The only third-party solution we currently recommend is Linkey
Refuelling & recharging

Guests pay for all fuel usage. Hosts get reimbursed for refuelling cars returned with less fuel and can charge a $10 refuelling inconvenience fee.

Keeping vehicles clean

Cars should be cleaned by hosts prior to each trip. Hosts can receive a payment of $150 for cleaning violations when a guest returns a car that’s excessively dirty.

Off-app insurance

Turo does not currently offer an off-app insurance option. Turo hosts are required to have CTP, but are not required to have other insurance to share their cars on the platform.
