Welcome to this month\u2019s edition of\u00a0Ask a Gearhead<\/a>, our Q&A series with enthusiasts and influencers in the automotive space. Last month we spoke with Petersen Automotive Museum Conservator\u00a0Dana Williamson<\/a>, and this month we are pleased to feature Aimee Shackelford!<\/p>\n

Aimee is a veteran mover in the automotive world. She is the manager of goldRush Rally & Fuel Run, one of the premier exotics rallies in the world and the first in the US. For the 2018\u00a0goldRush Rally<\/a>, participants will embark on a 10-day road trip from Boston to Las Vegas, visiting iconic roads and cities in their supercars along the way.<\/p>\n

Aimee works with automotive brands to grow their online presence through Social Bolt<\/a>, her social media management company. She is well suited to helping these businesses organize and network \u2014 Aimee is also a partner of Exotics on Cannery Row<\/a>, a staple event of Monterey Car Week. Check out her\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0for a steady stream of hypercars and other wonderful machines.<\/p>\n

WHAT WAS YOUR FAMILY CAR GROWING UP?<\/span><\/h4>\n

My family went through a lot of cars, I\u2019d say 90 percent of them were Cadillacs. My favorite was a 1970 Cadillac DeVille that was my grandmother\u2019s, then my dad took it over. It was kind of like driving in a house as a kid, it was so big. <\/span><\/p>\n

WORST THING YOU’VE EVER DRIVEN?<\/span><\/h4>\n

My first car was a Ford Escort, and it broke down literally once a month. Whether it was an oil leak, engine malfunction, or whatever, it was probably the worst car I\u2019ve ever owned. But it was the only car I could afford back then. <\/span><\/p>\n

IF YOU COULD OWN JUST ONE CAR FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?<\/span><\/h4>\n

My all-time dream car is a Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing. Those things go forever, too; I know someone who has one with pretty high mileage.<\/span><\/p>\n

FAVORITE ROAD TRIP?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Well we\u2019ve been doing goldRush Rally for 10 years now, and it\u2019s such an incredible experience to drive across the country with 100 cars. I have to say my favorite year was 2014, when we drove cross-country to Miami. It\u2019s just so fun to go through all these states with a great group of people.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT’S IN YOUR NETFLIX QUEUE RIGHT NOW?<\/h4>\n

I have three that I\u2019m watching. The Grand Tour, Sopranos, and Narcos. That\u2019s all I have in there. I don\u2019t have cable, I don\u2019t watch the news, I just have the few shows I like.<\/span><\/p>\n

YOU’RE DIRECTING FAST & FURIOUS 9, WHAT’S THE HERO CAR?<\/span><\/h4>\n

I\u2019d like to see a new GT2 on there, or some crazy hypercars on there. Like a Koenigsegg or Bugatti out on the street would be pretty cool in those movies.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST ANIMAL TO RIDE IF IT WERE SCALED UP TO THE SIZE OF A HORSE?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Even though it\u2019s already the size of a horse, I\u2019m going to say a unicorn. When I was a little girl I would search everywhere for a unicorn because I thought they were real. I grew up in the country in horse territory, so a lot of the neighbors would tell little kids that unicorns were real. And I got so upset when I found out they weren\u2019t. It was very traumatizing.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT ACTIVITY ARE YOU EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO DO WHEN SELF-DRIVERS ARRIVE?<\/h4>\n

I know exactly what I will do. I will just be on my phone working on Social Bolt, my social media company.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT’S YOUR MARIO KART CHARACTER?<\/span><\/h4>\n

I\u2019m not a big video game person anymore. But my son plays Mario Kart all the time, and the few times I\u2019ve played I think I\u2019ve used the little turtle character (Yoshi). I\u2019m old school, I played in the Kirby era.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHO WOULD PLAY YOU IN THE BIOPIC OF YOUR LIFE? AND WHAT IS IT CALLED?<\/span><\/h4>\n

I mean I\u2019d want Angelina Jolie to play me, she\u2019s definitely a badass chick. We\u2019d probably call it \u201cSurvival.\u201d Trying to survive as a female entrepreneur in the car world is an interesting road to take, that\u2019s for sure. It\u2019s not all bad for us, there are pluses and minuses.<\/span><\/p>\n

IF YOU HAD AN ICE CREAM TRUCK, WHAT SONG WOULD YOU PLAY FROM THE SPEAKER?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Well there was an old video game called Twisted Metal, where you basically drive around and bash each other\u2019s cars in. And there was an ice cream truck with a clown on it, and it made the craziest noises ever. So I\u2019d have that crazy clown truck from Twisted Metal<\/a>. And maybe I\u2019d play the soundtrack from \u201cIt.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT IS THE VERY LAST CAR YOU RENTED?<\/span><\/h4>\n

When I travel, and I do a lot of traveling, I always rent a car. I like to get something nice \u2014 Mercedes E-Class or Audi A5, something along those lines. I just cannot do the cheapo budget rental cars.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
