It puts a wrench in guests\u2019 plans and means missing out on bookings.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> In order to strengthen Turo\u2019s commitment to delivering awesome guest experiences while also recognizing the realities of hosting, we&#8217;re making some changes to our host cancellation policy.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A responsive cancellation policy<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We know not all host cancellations are equal, and our new policy \u2014 effective <\/span><b>August 24, 2017<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2014 reflects this:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Instead of one standard cancellation fee, <\/span><b>hosts will be charged a $25 fee for canceling more than 24 hours before trip start <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">or <\/span><b>a $50 fee for canceling less than 24 hours<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in advance of a trip. The applicable fee will be deducted from your next payout.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>We\u2019ll<\/b> <b>automatically waive any cancellation fee if you can rebook your guest within 24 hours<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>We\u2019ll automatically waive the fee if it\u2019s your first cancellation in 10 trips<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. We get it, you\u2019re usually on your game. But life happens, even to amazing hosts, so we\u2019ve baked in latitude to the cancellation policy to account for life\u2019s little annoyances.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As a reminder, it\u2019s not only impolite and awkward to ask your guest to cancel a trip on your behalf, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.turo.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/204454210-Can-I-cancel-a-trip-as-an-owner-\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">it\u2019s also prohibited<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. If you\u2019re unable to accommodate a trip, it is your responsibility to communicate with your guest and cancel.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How to avoid cancellations<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The best way to avoid cancellations is to get trips that work for you, and the Turo app has some handy settings to make that easy. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Update your calendar<\/b> <b>often<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">so you only get trips when your car is actually available<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Set<\/b> <b>pickup &amp; return hours<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in your \u201cOwner settings\u201d so you only get trips that start and end when you\u2019re available to meet travelers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Fine-tune your <\/b><b>trip<\/b><b> preferences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2014 tweaking your advance notice settings will help ensure you have plenty of time to prep before each trip, and adjusting your trip duration preferences will help you land trips that are just the right length.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Allowing your car to be booked instantly makes it incredibly appealing to travelers and gives you a leg up on the competition, but using Book Instantly also makes it especially important to keep all of your settings up-to-date to get trips you can fulfill.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What to do when you need to cancel<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Even the most prepared and attentive hosts can be hit with an unexpected snag. If you absolutely need to cancel a trip, we advise that you:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Contact your guest immediately, apologize, and let them know what\u2019s come up.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Try (really hard!) to find an alternative arrangement.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If there\u2019s no other option, cancel the trip online or in-app ASAP.
