Eight years ago, my newlywed friends decided to honeymoon their way through California’s wine country. Renting a red convertible made them feel like rock stars as they traversed vineyards and the gorgeous California coastline.<\/span><\/p>\n

Loren C. offers this same sort of experience to brides, grooms, honeymooners, and anyone else by renting his <\/span>siren-red, historically-registered 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster replica<\/span> (aka, Red Dream) on Turo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Acquiring the Porsche 356 Speedster replica<\/h3>\n

Loren was interested in this car as a young boy \u2014 when he saw it for the first time it made his eyes widen. He explains, “When you think of truly great cars, the Porsche 356 Speedster stands in the upper echelon of iconic automobiles. I’ve always been interested in this vehicle. The combination of its lines, distinct features, and practicality has always been alluring. I own a 911 Carrera 4S and can see how its modern technology was influenced and made possible by the early model Porsches such as the Speedster.” <\/span><\/p>\n

Loren believes that a professional reproduction, such as historically-registered Red Dream, is the only viable option left if you want to experience “the call of the open road in a pure and visceral way”.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are real roadblocks to owning or even finding a Speedster to rent. “There is an interesting dynamic to owning a Porsche 356 Speedster. The first being scarcity, as not many were produced. This, combined with skyrocketing values, means a concours-quality 1957 Speedster can sell for upwards of $300,000 to $450,000*, which falls outside of the price range of many enthusiasts. The second is the insurability factor, as there are literally only a handful of companies that specialize in classic vehicles<\/a>. And none of them will allow you to rent it out for special events without a very customized commercial insurance policy of at least $4,000,000\u2013$6,000,000 of coverage. I know this because I had originally considered purchasing an Authentic 1958 Porsche Speedster and called around looking for insurance quotes. Turns out there are literally only a few insurance underwriting companies that specialize in insuring exotic or classic vehicles.”<\/span><\/p>\n

After trolling the Internet for months, he found a replica of what had caught his eye all those years ago and brought the Red Dream home. <\/span><\/p>\n

Deciding to list Red Dream<\/h3>\n

Loren genuinely loves making other people happy \u2014 something that he hoped to accomplish when listing his car in July 2015. He particularly loves helping people check off something from their bucket list.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I like for others to experience the thrill of driving a classic convertible on a sunny day in Southern California. In a way, I feel as though the car is a brand ambassador of sorts. I’ve had couples from Canada, France, and all over the United States who selected the car because it’s so different from what one tends to get. People tell me that Red Dream awakens or rejuvenates their inner sense of adventure after driving it for the day. I think it’s great that a company like Turo makes the experience of driving an exotic car like this possible.” <\/span><\/p>\n

Ticking off the wedding day bucket list<\/h3>\n

Red Dream has enhanced six weddings in just five months. “My very first rental on Turo was for a wedding this past July. The groom was a seventy-five year old retired Aerospace Engineer who became a painter at the age of seventy and actually painted a Porsche 356 Speedster. A few days later his soon-to-be bride found my listing.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Since this initial wedding rental, Red Dream has been featured in a wedding at Ponte Winery in Temecula, shipped from Hollywood to Santa Barbara for a vintage-style wedding, and served as wedding transportation in San Diego and Malibu.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Wedding photographers love the car as it’s very photogenic, making it hard to take a bad picture of it.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Loren’s Red Dream is now a recommended vehicle at the <\/span>Hotel Del Coronado<\/span><\/a>, where valet guys fight over who gets to park it when it pulls into their lot. The car also made an official debut at the Turo launch party in November 2015. He and his coveted car received VIP treatment including transportation to The Mighty in San Francisco and a partial shutdown of a street in downtown San Francisco for Red Dream and two other special vehicles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After the party was over, the siren-red classic could be seen along famed coastal Highway 101 while being transported home by a Turo engineer and his wife. Loren says, “I’ve never had anything like this happen to with the large rental companies, can’t wait to see what the future holds.”<\/span><\/p>\n
