Up until a few years ago, Mercedes-Benz only made supercars in collaboration with McLaren \u2014 an offshoot of their Formula 1 partnership. When Mercedes announced they were bringing back the SLS brand with gull-wings and all, it sent ripples through the supercar community. And as expected, it caused some strain on their partnership with McLaren. The results were promising though \u2014 Mercedes\u2019s first solo attempt at supercars after a long sabbatical was well received. As you may expect, that hasn\u2019t stopped them from introducing an iteration which is significantly better and cheaper \u2014 our car of the month for July, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT-S<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Aimed squarely at the Porsche 911 enthusiast, the GT-S even looks like its arch-nemesis from behind. Unlike the 911 though, the monstrous V8 bi-turbo is in the front and the hate-it-or-love-it gull-wings from its predecessor have been replaced with regular doors. Granted, the entry level GT-S is significantly more expensive than a base 911, but with a $70,000 discount over the SLS AMG, some may still consider it a steal.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ride is what you would expect from a grand tourer \u2014 firm but comfortable.
