Most cars are designed for a single purpose. You have cars that are utilitarian and are basically meant for driving from point A to B. Then there are cars that are true driver\u2019s cars \u2014 the kind of car you would get if you genuinely enjoy driving. But what car would you choose if it had to be good at driving your kids to school and also on a backroad in the hills? That kind of versatility comes via decades of engineering and refinement. In fact, only a few really great cars have managed to strike that balance \u2014 the VW GTI, the Porsche 911, and the <\/span>BMW M3<\/span><\/a>, to name a few. <\/span><\/p>\n

There\u2019s a new kid on the block though. BMW recently introduced a cheaper version of the M3; it\u2019s based on their 2-series platform and is aptly called the M2 \u2014 our car of the month for June! <\/span><\/p>\n

Not only is it the cheapest M you can buy (<\/span>check here<\/span><\/a> for a full history of the BMW M division), but it\u2019s also lighter and simpler than the M3. While it isn\u2019t as powerful as the M3 or the M4, it does share some common components like the brakes and suspension without compromising on the overall weight. The 365-hp, 6-cylinder engine is thirsty but sounds absolutely amazing and the chassis feels refreshingly nimble without being twitchy. Plus, the option of getting it as a soft-top convertible more than compensates for the slightly numb steering feel. <\/span><\/p>\n
