The cars that made the stars

It’s that time of the year again when we applaud our favorite films, swoon over celebrities, and then laugh at them (thank you, Ricky Gervais). It’s the Golden Globes!

Here’s a look back at some of the famous rides that made some of this year’s nominees shine in their most (in)famous roles.

Leonardo DiCaprio from “The Great Gatsby”

The roaring 20s certainly roared a little louder in Baz Lurhmann’s 2013 adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic, thanks in no small part to this beauty, the 1929 Duesenberg J Jay Gatsby’s (Leonardo DiCaprio) eight-cylinder ride of choice is reportedly worth upwards of $3 million today, and at its time of production cost more than six times the average annual income. Though it’s still debated whether Gatsby would have driven this exact car (the novel is set in the early 1920s), it was the crème de la crème of its time and can still turn heads.

A decent substitute could be Jeremy’s ’57 Porsche Speedster replica.

Matt Damon from “The Bourne Identity”

Ever the consummate spy, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) “borrowed” this worn little classic and took it on one of the most memorable chases in film history in 2002’s “The Bourne Identity”, careening throughout Parisian streets to evade police. Five different vintage Minis were used during shooting with only one left standing by the end (ouch). The now-famous scene further solidified Mini’s legacy as a spy film staple for generations to come.

Al Pacino from “Scarface”

Al Pacino was already a mob film legend thanks to “The Godfather” series when he uttered perhaps the most famous six words in film history: “Say hello to my little friend!” Though we’re pretty sure he wasn’t talking about his ride, Tony Montana’s 18.5-foot-long signature yellow 1963 Cadillac Series-62 Convertible. When it rolled off production lines, it came with more than 143 interior options, the most of any vehicle at the time. Tony’s tiger print upholstery wasn’t one of them.

Christian Bale in “The Dark Knight” series

Let’s face it. Nothing matches the speed, styling, and power of Batman’s Tumbler…unless it’s the Lamborghini, Bruce Wayne’s (Christian Bale) favorite supercar when he’s not saving Gotham. At 640 horsepower and costing more than most mortgages, the Murciélago (“bat” in Spanish) is Bruce Wayne’s “subtle” choice for saving employee-turned-attempted-extortionist Coleman Reese in 2008’s “The Dark Knight.” For filming, the crew was given three by Lamborghini, crashing one on film in the process. Of course, Mr. Wayne upgraded to the 691-horsepowered Aventador LP-700 for 2012’s sequel “The Dark Knight Rises,” and all before the production line had even finished. Rumor has it, Warner Bros. was the recipient of the very first completed Aventadors.

Be the (k)night in Scott’s Lamborghini Huracán.
