The M5 gets electrified<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The M5 has been the<\/em> sports sedan since it hit the streets in the eighties. BMW\u2019s enhanced 5 Series has always seemed to nail the balance between performance, comfort, and luxury, and that just-right package has made it a standard. Recent versions have gotten larger and more powerful than ever \u2014 BMW has introduced the M5\u2019s newest generation for 2025, and it ratchets things up significantly in every department. Let\u2019s look at Akop\u2019s 2025 BMW M5 for our January car of the month<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, the elephant in the room. The internet has had much to say about the new M5\u2019s immense weight. The sedan clocks in at nearly 5,400 pounds, which is many pounds. That slots it just between two Mazda Miatas put together and the Chevy Tahoe (that makes things clear, right?). And this additional weight is chiefly there because, for the first time, the BMW M5 is a hybrid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2025 M5\u2019s plug-in powertrain combines a twin-turbo 4.4L V8 with an electric motor, which together produce a mighty 717 horsepower \u2014 about 100 more over the previous M5. The on-road effect is that the electric motor fills in any power gaps between shifts, providing the kind of seamless acceleration you\u2019d find in a fully electric car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other reason BMW<\/a> has hybridized this new M5 is so that it\u2019ll meet new emissions standards in important markets around the world. And meeting the new standards while improving power delivery is a neat trick the M5 has pulled off. Plus, it should be able to do 25 miles on electric-only mode for short trips around town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Otherwise, the 2025 M5 keeps its focus on being the excellent all-round sports sedan drivers expect. It offers a wild number of customizable drive modes and settings to adjust shift speeds, throttle response, brake feel, traction control, and more, and then there are different hybrid and electric modes to adjust with for more efficient journeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a whole lot to play around with, but even if you don\u2019t want to bother with all that, you can sit back and enjoy the M5\u2019s beautiful interior. As you\u2019d expect, it\u2019s loaded with tech, upscale materials, and colorful interior lighting, and it\u2019s a good place to be sitting. The car is surely designed for hurling along the German Autobahn, so you won\u2019t go wrong taking this bad boy for a long road trip anywhere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All in all, the 2025 M5 over-delivers in almost every area. Excess alone can get out of hand, but excess in every department makes for a sensible, well-balanced machine, and that\u2019s what this is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
