It\u2019s back to school time, the time of year that has kids lamenting the loss of summertime freedom and parents (perhaps) celebrating a return to normalcy. High school evokes for most either a sense of nostalgia or PTSD, but whether you savored those years in your letterman jacket or spent it surlily smoking cigarettes under the bleachers, everyone can at least recall that sense of independence you felt when you first got behind the wheel.<\/p>\n

Here are our favorite timeless high school classics\u00a0(in no particular order) with the sickest wheels that crystallize that quintessential coming-of-age that it is high school.<\/span><\/p>\n

Clueless<\/span><\/h3>\n

I saw <\/span>Clueless<\/span><\/i> (1995) in the theater, and it turned out to have that sort of cultish lasting power that has made it a modern day classic. To this day, I can\u2019t get on the freeway without hearing \u201cYo, you\u2019re getting on the freeway!\u201d and recalling the milestone that was conquering the slow lane. And Cher careening down some boulevard in her white Jeep during her driver\u2019s test certainly set the bar for my own driving test years later.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"clueless\"<\/p>\n

A different year, perhaps, but a white Jeep in LA never goes out of style. <\/span>Channel Cher in Ekaterina\u2019s white Jeep Wrangler.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Fast Times at Ridgemont High<\/span><\/h3>\n

Who didn\u2019t love Spicoli? Arguably Sean Penn\u2019s most iconic role, the lovable stoner made a splash by totaling Charles Jefferson\u2019s 1979 Chevy Camaro in Cameron Crowe\u2019s <\/span>Fast Times at Ridgemont High <\/span><\/i>(1982), a snapshot of vintage ’80s high school life. <\/span><\/p>\n

While we don\u2019t have a \u201879 Camaro, you can <\/span>drive much more responsibly (and sans joint) in Cameron\u2019s \u201868 Chevy Camaro<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Dazed and Confused<\/span><\/h3>\n

Another wry, vintage cult classic, <\/span>Dazed and Confused<\/span><\/i> (1993) plays any vintage car buff like a fiddle. My personal fave, namely because it was the adorably lecherous David Wooderson\u2019s (Matthew McConaughey) signature whip, was the\u00a01970 Chevy Chevelle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Be the cool upperclassman you always wanted to be and <\/span>try Dorghum\u2019s 1972 Mustang convertible<\/span> as a stand-in for Wooderson\u2019s Chevelle.<\/span><\/p>\n

American Graffiti<\/span><\/h3>\n

THE quintessential coming-of-age high school story, George Lucas\u2019 nostalgic <\/span>American Graffiti<\/span><\/i> (1973) takes place in 1962 Modesto, CA and epitomizes the cruising culture of the 1960s. From T-Birds to Impalas, the cars in this generation-defining flick\u00a0are some of the most mouth-watering car candy in this whole lineup.<\/span><\/p>\n

John\u2019s \u201865 Mustang<\/span> could get you in the mood, or maybe <\/span>Robert\u2019s \u201865 Plymouth Barracuda<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ferris Bueller\u2019s Day Off<\/span><\/h3>\n

Any movie buff who\u2019s worth her salt remembers Cameron\u2019s dad\u2019s coveted \u201861 Ferrari Modena Spyder that ends up being as much of a main character as Cameron or Sloane in John Hughes\u2019 <\/span>Ferris Bueller\u2019s Day Off<\/span><\/i> (1986). The Modena Spyder signified not just status, not just rebellion, but the ultimate freedom \u2014 freedom to drive (even for the valet guy) and ultimately, freedom to stand up for yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n
