There\u2019s no denying that fruit tastes just a little sweeter when you pick it yourself, which is why visiting a you-pick farm should be on your summer bucket list this year. Below are a few of our favorites across the nation, so get yourself a car and get into fruit country.<\/span><\/p>\n

New Jersey<\/span><\/h3>\n

From now through early September, both clingstone and freestone peaches are ripe for the picking in New Jersey. You\u2019ll find an abundance of farms where you can select your own peaches \u2014 check out <\/span>Johnson\u2019s Corner Farm<\/span><\/a> in Burlington County to enjoy a hayride with your harvest, or venture to <\/span>Terhune Orchards<\/span><\/a> in Mercer County for their <\/span>Just Peachy Festival<\/span><\/a> on Aug 1 and 2, featuring farm to fork eats and live entertainment. <\/span><\/p>\n

Connecticut<\/span><\/h3>\n

Need to escape the NYC heat? Take a day trip to the Connecticut countryside to gather some refreshing fruit \u2014 you\u2019ll thank yourself later if you can make it last until you get back to the city. <\/span>Bishop\u2019s Orchards<\/span><\/a> offers blueberries, raspberries, pears, and more, plus, come August, a spectacular sunflower maze. <\/span>Jone\u2019s Family Farm<\/span><\/a> has not just fruit, but an on-site winery as well \u2014 talk about sweetening the deal. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Texas<\/span><\/h3>\n

Blackberry season may be nearing its end, but blueberries are still plentiful at <\/span>Greer Farm<\/span><\/a>, near Daingerfield. If you want more than a day trip, you can even stay in one of the farm\u2019s lakeside log cabins and enjoy farm\u2013to\u2013fork meals as well as cooking classes. If you\u2019re craving apples and don\u2019t want to wait til fall, head over to Roanoke to check out <\/span>Henrietta Creek Orchard<\/span>, boasting six different apple varieties. Plus, meander through their pizza garden, specifically cultivated to produce tomatoes, peppers, garlic, and other herbs for a more savory kind of pie. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

California<\/span><\/h3>\n

The entire state of California is rife with fresh fruit in the summertime. Start down south at <\/span>Tanaka Farms<\/span><\/a> in Irvine, where you can pick your own watermelon after a wagon tasting tour of the farm, then head to <\/span>McGrath Family Farm<\/span><\/a> in Ventura for some seriously sweet strawberries. Make your way up north to check out organic <\/span>Crystal Bay Farm<\/span>, where you\u2019ll find berries aplenty as well as a you-pick flower field.<\/span><\/p>\n

Florida<\/span><\/h3>\n

Though citrus season isn\u2019t until November, <\/span>English Lake Farm<\/span> in Ft. Ogden does have persimmons and avocados through August. It\u2019s hard to beat picking your own guacamole ingredients, so don\u2019t miss your chance to select your own green gold. To venture out of the fruit family, visit <\/span>Rogers Farm<\/span> in Gainesville to pick your own corn and butter beans\u00a0\u2014 essential for any summer BBQ. <\/span><\/p>\n

Pennsylvania<\/span><\/h3>\n

In the hills of Berks County lies <\/span>Weaver\u2019s Orchard<\/span><\/a>, a farm offering much more than pick-your-own fruit (though they have that in abundance: blueberries, nectarines, and even early peaches are a few of the current highlights).
