If you\u2019ve ever had the pleasure of driving a Tesla, you know it\u2019s tough to go back to a car with a regular combustion engine. Tesla owner Shawn P. bought his first Tesla in June of 2014 and never looked back \u2014 until he went to Maui on vacation and couldn\u2019t find an electric option for rent.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo we thought, what if we shipped it over to Hawaii,\u201d he recalls, \u201cso we can use it while we\u2019re there,\u201d (he usually spends about 30 days per year on Maui with his family), \u201cand then rent it out to other people when we\u2019re not there?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And that\u2019s exactly what he did \u2014 and his was the first Tesla for rent on Maui. <\/span><\/p>\n

Since shipping it to Hawaii from Southern California where he lives the rest of the year, he and his guests\u00a0have taken it everywhere. \u201cThe car has enough battery to go around the whole island, all the way up to <\/span>Haleakala<\/span><\/a>, on a single charge,\u201d he said. Some travelers have even taken it on the fabled road to Hana.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt gives everyone a little bit of happiness. To be there in that scenery and to drive those roads with no car noise is pretty extraordinary,\u201d he reflects. And \u201cthe Tesla community just swoons over it; it\u2019s decked out to the nines,\u201d and has as much storage space as a Jeep Wrangler.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd there are charging stations all over the island,\u201d he said. People sometimes worry about running out of juice, but with a 270-mile range and charging stations all over the island, drivers are never far from a charge.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shawn is enthusiastic about renting out his Tesla to other visitors to the island \u2014 not only does he get to share his cherished car and way of life, but he also gets to share one of his favorite travel destinations.<\/span><\/p>\n
