Don\u2019s excellent collection of movie-quality cars<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Don had always planned on building a car collection when he retired. He\u2019s a big car enthusiast and businessman who\u2019s built relationships in the LA car community, and he has a deep passion for classics. \u201cIt was going to be something I did 20 years from now. But after a year of sitting at home, I decided to not wait anymore,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first, Don<\/a> started purchasing cars simply for him and his son to enjoy. \u201cMy son Maor and I, we are car guys. And we were a little bit bored to be honest,\u201d he said. So the pandemic spurred this father-and-son collection, leading to the trio of American muscle cars<\/a> they have now. Only after acquiring the cars did Don discover Turo and decide to list them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They started with a 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SX. It\u2019s a four-speed manual with a 455 big block V8 that makes 320 horsepower \u2014 a truly gorgeous example of one of Oldsmobile\u2019s most successful models, and one of just 300 sold in the US, according to Don. \u201cThis is a car I\u2019ve wanted since I was seven. It\u2019s a true muscle car, though they used to call it the \u2018Gentleman\u2019s car\u2019 in \u201871. It\u2019s a great car to drive, it\u2019s so fun,\u201d Don said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s in mint condition \u2014 just below concourse condition, I\u2019d say.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the Oldsmobile gave them a taste, they bought a red \u201867 Pontiac GTO, then a classy \u201874 Cadillac Eldorado. \u201cAll convertibles, since we are in Southern California.\u201d Each of Don\u2019s cars is in stellar condition, and have been used in a number of TV shows and video shoots. The GTO, for example, was used in the HBO series The White House Plumbers<\/em>. \u201cWoody Harrelson was driving my car for about two weeks,\u201d said Don.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019s no stranger to classic muscle cars. He used to restore old Mustangs years ago, but found it was cheaper and easier to buy restored cars. \u201cI went through that experience already,\u201d he said. \u201cBeen there, done that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Don notes he actually likes the process of buying cars even more than having them. \u201cThat\u2019s the fun part for me. I\u2019d get a car, enjoy it for a few weeks, then almost forget about it,\u201d he laughs. So instead of letting them sit, Don is sharing his cars and passion with others, and sharing this experience with his son, who is just reaching driving age. \u201cSo that\u2019s why I got into Turo,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have a partnership. He helps with a lot of the hosting work, and I\u2019m trying to teach him the value of money.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though they offer fairly specialized vehicles, Don says their car sharing business, 555 Classic Cars, is going great. \u201cWe\u2019ve done really well already in just a few months as hosts,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd whenever somebody books one of our cars, it\u2019s exciting for us. Preparing the car, cleaning it\u2026 all this helps us activate our hobby. It\u2019s a lot of fun for us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo for me, Turo is not about the money,\u201d he said. Discussing which models to buy with his son, the thrill of shopping for just the right car, weighing the investment and costs \u2014 these are delights that car people live for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for future plans for his collection, Don already has his eye on a number of cars. \u201cFor now we\u2019ll stick with convertibles, of course.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
