The Boxster\/Cayman family cuts to the heart of what Porsche<\/a> sports cars are all about: delighting drivers with precision, performance, and a tangible connection to the car. The Porsche Spyder dials in on that ethos so well that the model feels\u2026 special. The Spyder is the stiffened, hardened, more focused version of the Boxster with a unique body style and \u201cSpyder\u201d badges galore, and only 850 Boxster Spyders of this generation were sold in the US. The double-bubble rear deck lid is reminiscent of the 911 Speedster, and makes this mid-engined athlete all the more noticeable on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are many numbers associated with this car, but the only one that really matters is six. Unlike the current Boxster and Cayman with their turbocharged four-cylinder engines, this last-generation (981) Spyder houses a naturally aspirated flat-six (the new 718 Spyder and its Cayman GT4<\/a> sibling have since brought the flat-six back). Which means more of the high-revving, exhaust-bellowing, spirited driving that enthusiasts crave. Plus, this car only comes with a manual transmission, which is Porsche\u2019s version of a \u201cMust be this tall to ride\u201d sign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
