The mid-engined Corvette has been one of the most anticipated cars of the past many years. The Corvette has been a staple of the Chevy lineup for decades, and until this point has stuck faithfully to its tried-and-true formula: Big V8 up front driving the rear wheels. Finally, after all the hype and rumor mongering, the brand-new 2020 Corvette has arrived!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Corvette has been America\u2019s sports car<\/a> since 1963; other famous Chevy models like the Camaro<\/a> and the Impala have come and gone through the years, but the Corvette has remained a constant<\/a> \u2014 1983 was the only year without Corvette production since the model\u2019s inception. A mid-engined version of the Corvette was teased for years at auto shows, but the idea of a mid-engined Corvette seemed to only be a pipe dream for fans \u2014 it seemed the closest thing they would get was prototypes at car shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now the C8 (\u201cCorvette 8,\u201d for the eighth generation) is finally here and fans are over the moon to see what this new ‘Vette can do. The base-level 2020 Corvette Stingray (\u201cStingray\u201d is now fully part of the name) boasts a 490-horsepower, 6.2L LT2 V8 with a Tremec eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. If that isn\u2019t enough to get you hyped, the C8 features a double-wishbone suspension system allowing it to handle like a true mid-engined sports car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No matter how it sits with your personal taste, the C8\u2019s sleek styling oozes supercar \u2014 but the most important thing is that it\u2019s still unmistakably a Corvette. The C8 will even come with a retractable hardtop option that allows the car to keep its sharp lines when the top is down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The driver-centric interior has been designed to make it so that the driver can operate everything in the vehicle without ever having to take their eyes off the road. Plus, the streamlined push-button transmission controls allow for more storage space which is great for such a compact interior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turo host Travis<\/a> has one of the very first C8 Corvettes on Turo, in the top-of-the line 3LT trim with the Z51 package. This performance trim makes up to 495 horsepower allowing it to go zero to 60 in under three seconds with a mean sounding exhaust rumble. All of this is wrapped up in a ceramic matrix gray metallic paint job with forged Vossen wheels<\/a> \u2014 a super sharp package all in all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent years, the Corvette has sometimes been unfairly stereotyped as a mid-life crisis car. But the radically changed C8 aims to bring in a whole new generation of Corvette fans and lay away that stereotype. Seeing the amount of love and attention that has gone into making this car possible is what really gets so many enthusiasts excited. A mid-engined Corvette has been in the making since 1960, and now it\u2019s finally here.
