A supercar in every sense<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you fancy yourself a supercar, nowadays there is anything but a shortage of options. Naturally, there are the obvious choices that hail from Italy<\/a>, but suppose you want something a little different; something unique, yet still has just as much racing pedigree. That\u2019s where McLaren enters the equation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the glory days of the mighty three-seater F1 well behind it, McLaren has enthusiastically stepped up production of its road-going cars in recent years. That means state of the art racing technology is now within reach more than ever. What better way to celebrate October than with a satisfyingly intense car of the month<\/a> \u2014 the McLaren 650S?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turo host Eric\u2019s 2016 McLaren 650S in LA is quite the head turner. In case the mouth-watering body lines, Volcano Yellow paint, and dihedral doors weren\u2019t enough to ignite the excitement, this 650S is a Spider variant, so you can drop the top and enjoy the sunshine on some of SoCal\u2019s favorite canyon roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While looks certainly play a part in the 650S\u2019 appeal, we can\u2019t ignore the heart of the beast. Under the rear deck lid sits a mid-mounted 3.8L V8 pumping out a supremely healthy 641 horsepower, courtesy of two turbochargers. Sending that power to the wheels is a paddle shifted seven-speed dual clutch transmission, and you\u2019ll probably want to keep both hands on the steering wheel given the McLaren\u2019s potential. With a 0-60 time of just under three seconds, and a top speed over 200 miles per hour, the 650S is a supercar and then some…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Power is only part of the equation though, as the real genius of any McLaren goes into the chassis and braking components. The monocoque utilizes racecar-style carbon fiber construction, which is not only very light, but also makes for a very rigid chassis. Additionally, Eric\u2019s car proudly displays its gargantuan carbon brakes behind elegantly styled 19 and 20-inch wheels, so the 650S will come to a halt just as quick as it goes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A racecar for the street seems like a great idea on paper, but in many instances it\u2019s a car that\u2019s uncomfortable to drive in the real world. The public roads are not nearly as smooth as the tarmac of a circuit, but thankfully McLaren<\/a> has thought of that already. Like the McLaren 12C<\/a> it replaced, the 650S comes equipped with a very trick adaptive suspension, which can adjust the shock damping to suit varying road conditions. The driver can further tinker with the ride settings via three selectable drive modes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eric\u2019s McLaren is more than just the numbers and high-tech engineering wizardry. The interior is just as much a style statement as it is functional. The dash and bucket seats are wrapped in Alcantara with contrasting yellow stitching, while carbon fiber decorates the center stack of switches. Further adding to the interior aesthetics is the perforated leather steering wheel, which sits right in front of a large tachometer reminding you that the fun can goes as high as 8,500 rpm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next time you\u2019re in Los Angeles, forget the conventional rental car, and make it a trip to remember with a McLaren from Turo.
