Welcome to this month\u2019s edition of <\/span>Ask a Gearhead<\/span><\/a>, our Q&A series with enthusiasts and influencers in the automotive space. Last time we spoke with Donut Media\u2019s James Pumphrey,<\/a> and this month we are pleased to feature Sam from Seen Through Glass!<\/span><\/p>\n

Sam is a YouTuber and enthusiast from London. His\u00a0YouTube channel<\/a>\u00a0Seen Through Glass has nearly 400,000 subscribers who follow along as he shares epic road trips, test drives, challengers, interviews, and motorsports videos. Sam often describes his channel as “a dodgy rip-off of the old Top Gear,” but Seen Through Glass is one of the most popular destinations in online car culture.<\/p>\n

Just recently, Sam announced an ambitious project called “Drive the World,”\u00a0a 12-month road trip<\/a>\u00a0that will send Sam driving through six continents and dozens of countries. The trip starts in January 2019, and Sam will spend the year meeting up with fans and friends across the globe, documenting the whole thing in vlogs and on his podcast<\/a>. He’ll be using one car for the majority of the trip, even shipping it across oceans when necessary!<\/p>\n

WHAT WAS YOUR FAMILY CAR GROWING UP?<\/span><\/h4>\n

My fondest memories are of a Range Rover. My dad\u2019s had Range Rovers for at least 15 years now.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT’S THE WORST THING YOU’VE EVER DRIVEN?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Probably a Fiat 500 loaner car. It was what the dealership gave me when my Alfa Romeo 4C was getting serviced. It was not the same at all.<\/span><\/p>\n

IF YOU COULD OWN JUST ONE CAR FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale. It\u2019s always been my dream car. Certainly impractical but it\u2019s still my dream car.<\/span><\/p>\n

FAVORITE ROAD TRIP?<\/span><\/h4>\n

A couple of years ago I spent three months in LA, and in my memory the whole stay was one big road trip because I was out driving so much. But for one trip, I took the Pacific Coast Highway all the way to Monterey, and I did it in a big old Cadillac. It was the first time I did that road, and it was absolutely mind-blowing to me. There were tourists in the way for a lot of it but it\u2019s just such a scenic road and it does open up in places. The scale of the mountains and the scale of the ocean cliffs \u2014 it blew me away.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT’S IN YOUR NETFLIX QUEUE RIGHT NOW?<\/span><\/h4>\n

I\u2019m obsessed with Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. I like the fact that it looks like it could be on YouTube. And I just watched the Derren Brown: Miracle show, and I definitely recommend it.<\/span><\/p>\n

YOU’RE DIRECTING FAST & FURIOUS 9, WHAT’S THE HERO CAR?<\/span><\/h4>\n

I\u2019d go back the the spirit of the original movie and have a highly modified Japanese import. Maybe the Lexus LC500, but add a widebody kit, make it silly and loud, and off you go.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT ACTIVITY ARE YOU EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO DO IN A CAR WHEN SELF-DRIVERS ARRIVE?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Probably edit my videos, it would make my life a lot easier.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT’S YOUR MARIO KART CHARACTER?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Donkey Kong is my go-to. I do like the bananas but there\u2019s no real strategy behind it, unfortunately.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHO WOULD PLAY YOU IN A BIOPIC OF YOUR LIFE? AND WHAT IS IT CALLED?<\/span><\/h4>\n

I\u2019d be played by someone cool, but bald, like a young-ish Bruce Willis. Us baldies need to stick together. I\u2019d call it \u201cIn, Achieve, Leave\u201d \u2014 it\u2019s sort of my expression.<\/span><\/p>\n

IF YOU HAD AN ICE CREAM TRUCK, WHAT SONG WOULD YOU PLAY FROM THE SPEAKER?<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u201cBasket Case\u201d by Green Day. Though I think it might scare away some kids.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT IS THE VERY LAST CAR YOU RENTED?<\/span><\/h4>\n

It was a lovely <\/span>Porsche 911 GTS from Turo<\/span><\/a> that I took to Monterey Car Week! It was awesome, and it shouldn\u2019t surprise me \u2014 it\u2019s a 911 \u2014 but it was just so, so good. And I was amazed at how much attention it got in Monterey, it turned out to be a real head-turner.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
