The central California coast is not only a feast for the eyes — complete with hairpin turns on dizzyingly panoramic highways — but it’s also a feast for the surfing types who flock to Mavericks and the rugged coastline in search of some epic surf.

Hungry for an itinerant surf weekend herself, Turo member and SF local Sam S. recently went on an excursion down south to find some good swells and some quality time away from the city hubbub.

She grabbed Tom’s Toyota 4Runner, her surf buds, and her gear and cruised down iconic Highway 1 toward Santa Cruz, Watsonville, and ultimately, Big Sur.

They camped and got in a few good surf sessions over the long weekend, complete with some dolphins and whales playing nearby to complete the idyllic scene.
