Today, I’m thrilled to announce that Turo has launched in the United Kingdom, marking our second international expansion this year and our first in Europe.
Having seen such great successes this year in North America — we recently signed up our two millionth community member and exceeded 110,000 vehicles for rent across over 4,500 cities in the US and Canada — we decided expanding to the UK made perfect sense to meet demand and better serve our community of travelers at home and abroad. Travelers from the UK to the US and Canada represent our largest segment of international travelers, and likewise, the UK is the most searched for destination outside the US and Canada.

To get Turo up and running in London as quickly as possible — and just in time for the holidays — we’ve partnered with car rental entrepreneurs whose values and customer service reflect those of the Turo brand, and whose fleets boast everything from classic British icons like Mini Coopers, Jaguars, and Land Rovers to more traditional Turo favorites like Jeeps and Teslas. These entrepreneurs will have hundreds of vehicles listed and available for rent at launch. Travelers to the UK and local Britons alike will enjoy the extraordinary selection of unique vehicles for rent at a variety of price points, as well as the access and convenience that makes and has made Turo stand out from traditional car rental players with increasing prominence.
On the flip side of the marketplace, empowering these independent car rental entrepreneurs throughout the UK with a platform to reach more customers at home and abroad will give them a chance to compete with large rental corporations. For the moment, the Turo marketplace is only available for our selected partners to list their cars, but we will launch our traditional peer-to-peer model in 2017, empowering everyday Brits to offset the cost of ownership of their individual vehicles.
This latest expansion is another tremendous milestone in our growth path, and one that brings us all the closer to realizing our mission of putting the world’s one billion cars to better use. My vision for Turo is that wherever you are, you can rent the perfect vehicle for your next adventure from a trusted Turo host. With this latest development, more travelers can access the perfect vehicle for their next adventure, both at home and abroad.
