We sent it to Hawaii’s Big Island for a week for a summer vacation. My family and I have been to Oahu, Maui, and Kauai a bunch so we were excited to see a whole new island.

First thing we did after picking up Greg’s Subaru in Kalaoa was going to Manini’owali Beach (Kua Bay). There’s a super pretty road leading up to a small beach. Then we cruised to an awesome hike out in the Kilo countryside. Eden and Elijah guided us through the trees as we ended at an awesome waterfall. And jumped off the rocks of course.

We journeyed to another beach but this one was a black sand beach called Punalu’u Black Sand Beach — a super pretty place surrounded by palm trees. My wife and I enjoyed some coconuts while the kids jumped in the water.

On the way across the island to Kīlauea, we stumbled upon an amazing family-owned coffee farm to enjoy a few lattes and banana bread.

Then we went on to Kīlauea, where the volcano had been erupting for some time — such an amazing experience to see an active volcano, and once the sun went down, we got to see real lava! The skies were glowing bright red. It was unreal.
