Today we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve launched Turo in Canada in partnership with leading Canadian insurers, Intact and belairdirect.

The launch marks two landmark firsts — Canada is our first market expansion outside the United States, and we are Canada’s first peer-to-peer car rental company. It’s an exciting time for us as we build on our mission — to put the world’s one billion cars to better use — to include Canadians’ 23 million cars sitting on streets and in garages around the country. It’s also an exciting time for Canadian car owners — the average compact car costs CA$9,500 per year to maintain. For the first time, Canadians can now turn this idle asset into an earning engine that fuels travelers’ adventures, all while being part of a vibrant community that we’re so excited to grow internationally.

We’re also privileged to be supported by our insurance providers, Intact and belairdirect, who revised their rules to remove exclusions for the specific use of Turo’s marketplace. This is a huge victory for Turo and for the sharing economy as a whole, and really demonstrates that Intact and belairdirect are forging a new path toward innovation for insurance giants.

Turo currently operates in Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec, with plans to expand to rest of Canada’s beautiful provinces soon.

We couldn’t be more pleased to expand our marketplace to our neighbor to the north, and we’re even more excited to start exploring the highways, byways, and sweeping panoramas of this rugged, picturesque country — in a car rented from the Turo marketplace.
