Today, we’re excited to announce that Turo has officially launched in British Columbia — marking our first expansion into a new Canadian province since our initial launch in Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec in April 2016.

Having seen flourishing growth during our first year in Canada, Turo now counts over 220,000 Canadian users, 7% of which are British Columbia residents. This, combined with the province’s high levels of cross-border travel, numerous touring opportunities, and steep penetration of car sharing make British Columbia a natural market for Turo.

To get our expansion up and running in BC as quickly as possible, we’ve structured the first stage of our expansion by partnering with local independent car rental agencies, car entrepreneurs, and hotels whose values and dedication to customer service reflect those of the Turo brand. Their fleets include both unique, specialty cars and tried-and-true Turo favourites such as Teslas, BMWs, and Porsches. What’s more, to address the unique regulations of British Columbia, all partners who participate in the first stage of our expansion into BC will be required to provide their own renter insurance to travellers.

We’re proud to chart a new path in the travel industry through our expansion into British Columbia, and provide travellers with a local, convenient, and more personal alternative to big car rental companies through our local network of amazing car entrepreneurs. Independent car rental companies are natural partners for Turo; most are family-run small businesses who offer great service, and great cars, at great prices. Using the Turo platform, they can easily reach our fast growing community of trusted travellers and finally be able to compete with the larger car rental chains. We’re thrilled to empower car entrepreneurs across beautiful British Columbia.

Turo’s expansion into BC provides unique new travel experiences for travellers and new economic opportunities for entrepreneurs and travel operators. Thanks to Turo, travellers can now get a Tesla delivered to the Vancouver airport, visitors to Victoria can rent cars directly from the DoubleTree by Hilton Victoria, and local car entrepreneurs are empowered both to increase their reach locally and internationally and to compete alongside larger players who might have previously dominated the car rental space.

Beginning today, Turo is actively marketing towards travellers and suppliers across the province to raise awareness of the Turo brand, in preparation of the future launch of our full peer-to-peer service. In the meantime, we will be working with insurance regulators and legislators to launch peer-to-peer car sharing and bring Turo to all individual car owners in BC in the near future.
