The Air is no longer just a dream. Should Tesla Worry?
While Tesla has fast-tracked the electrification of the automotive industry, engineers at Lucid Motors have been hard at work designing an attractive competitor for the Model S. Scratch that. Lucid prepared their flagship sedan to fly past Tesla and deliver industry leading range and impressive power sure to grab the attention of even the most devoted Tesla enthusiast. The Lucid Air has finally hit the streets, first in the form of the Dream Edition trim. So far, only 520 of these stunners have been produced in the world, making Andre’s Lucid Air one of the most exclusive vehicles on the Turo marketplace.
Lucid Motors has been manufacturing prototypes and popping up in headlines for years — all in preparation for the launch of the Air. Joining the luxury electric sedan segment formerly occupied by just the Tesla Model S, Lucid promised class-leading range and performance, and they over delivered. With 520 miles of range and supercar acceleration thanks to over 1,000 horsepower, the Air pushes the boundaries of electric performance and foreshadows a new generation of EVs unlike any cars we have seen before.

Donned in Eureka Gold metallic with platinum accents, the Lucid aims to stand out from the moment you approach the vehicle, as the Air auto unlocks and displays a welcoming sequence of lights. Inside the cabin, you will first notice the glass canopy — a fully panoramic roof that bathes the interior in UV-protected sunlight. In contrast to Tesla’s minimalistic cockpit, Lucid decided to go the opposite direction and provide a continuous glass screen that seamlessly flows from the dashboard to the center of the vehicle, and another tablet-sized screen to power interior comfort features like driving modes and seat positioning. The Air also boasts Amazon Alexa integration for answering voice commands and 21 speakers powered by Dolby Atmos, making even the most ordinary of car sounds (think door unlocks or turn signals) an auditory treat.

Although the Lucid Air embraces a futuristic and lavish cabin, competing luxury electric sedans are similarly pioneering a new wave of automotive innovation. The Mercedes-Benz EQS leverages AI technology in both its semi-autonomous driving features and interior ambience to learn from driver habits. The Tesla Model S presents a responsive steering yoke, rear-folding seats for class-leading storage space, and unrivaled semi-autonomous driving through its Autopilot feature. And Porsche’s Taycan has been praised by critics for its best-in-class everyday driving experience, integrating the brand’s racing pedigree into a powerful electric drivetrain. With deeply engaging technology and treasured brand recognition offered by rivals, Lucid truly shines in the most integral part of the car — its performance on the road.
Drivers can leave range anxiety in the past as the Air in its Dream Edition form reaches 520 miles of range, the best battery range offered to date. Future, lower trims will still beat Tesla’s best range projections at 406 miles — a drive along PCH from LA to the Bay Area on a single charge. The Air can also charge 300 miles of range in 20 minutes with DC fast charging. Or alternatively, Lucid drivers can take advantage of free charging at any Electrify America station, including guests who book Andre’s Air.

While the Air can present a buttery smooth journey, it can also provide hair-raising thrills, launching from zero to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds with its incredible 1,111 hp. By the time you finish reading this sentence, the Air will have also completed a quarter mile journey in less than 10 seconds. These stats may be wildly impressive, but for everyday driving convenience, the Air is equipped with Lucid’s DreamDrive technology suite, which enables advanced semi-autonomous driving features similar to competitors. And like the Mercedes EQS, the Air also uses LIDAR for near-instantaneous response times to avoid potential collisions.
As a nod to its California roots, Lucid also takes significant strides to ensure its Air is as sustainable as possible. Its interior cabin is made from responsibly sourced wood, recycled yarn, and Bridge of Weir leather — the world’s lowest carbon footprint leather-maker — all in hues inspired by California’s natural beauty. Plus, the Air’s massive range is made possible by its space-saving electric platform, which translates to a larger battery and added flexibility for future Lucid vehicles.
Lucid has made quite the splash with its flagship Air sedan. Its striking design and unmatched range make for an unforgettable journey every time you get behind the wheel. And with its crazy exclusivity, a multi-day test drive in Andre’s Lucid Air may be your only chance to get a feel for the new EV brand for a while.
