The Lotus Emira is meant to be the last gas-powered Lotus before the British brand moves toward electrification. For driving enthusiasts, that really means something — with a dedicated specialization on agile, communicative sports cars, Lotus has been the darling of purists for decades. So aside from the pressure of living up to the Lotus promise in terms of performance, the Emira has a bit of emotion riding on it.
Bradley’s wedgy two-seater has been out for a few years now, and the verdict is definitely in: the Emira is a hit. Any mid-engined, rear-wheel drive, manual sports car is an exciting proposition, but the Emira looks as good as any quarter-million-dollar supercar. Low ride height, big scoops, and swoopy lines help this coupe look fast standing still. And it backs up that promise on the road with characteristic Lotus sharpness.
