Take a break with these pretty pictures
Every few Fridays we like to bring you moments of zen in the form of some of our favorite motorcars from around the Turo marketplace. Let’s keep the fun going. We like cars, you like cars, so let’s look at some cars.
It’s no longer news that Audi is discontinuing the R8 — at least the R8 that we know. The V10-powered supercar stormed onto the scene in 2006 as Audi’s first “halo car” and consistently impressed through two generations. For the next generation, the R8’s replacement will plug into the wall instead of drinking that smelly brown stuff.

At first glance, you might not guess Aly’s 2022 R8 Spyder is a 16-year-old model. It has a streamlined silhouette, sharky and serious face, crispy angles — it is a mid-engine supercar, after all. That said, the R8 has always been praised for its understated approach. The interior presents typical Audi excellence but is otherwise without jewelry. There’s only one screen (gasp!) and it’s for the driver only — the digital gauge cluster doubles as the infotainment system, and you should have your eyes on the road, anyway.

Aly’s R8 uses a power plant that’s soon going the way of the dodo: a naturally-aspirated 5.2L V10 making 562 horsepower. It has no turbos, no superchargers, no complicated hybrid systems. The R8 is mechanical, immensely capable, and it still looks so good. We’ll be sad to see it go.
