You’re not dreaming

Fast cars come and go, but a truly special car can make memories that last forever. The Porsche 911 is the quintessential sports car with an instantaneously recognizable silhouette and a racing pedigree that spans generations. And the Turbo S is the fastest and most luxurious trim of the 911, sitting at the pinnacle of what the automotive world has to offer. This sleek grand tourer has been refined over several decades and sets a global standard for making a daily driver out of a typical track star. Let’s cruise down to Miami and look at Fernando’s 2023 Porsche 911 Turbo S, our July car of the month.

The 911 Turbo was introduced in 1975 as the first 911 with a twin-turbocharged engine and wide body frame. The Turbo S takes it one step further and, for the 2023 variant, elevates its maximum power from 572 hp to 640 hp. With a lightweight 3.7L flat-six engine and all-wheel-drive platform, the Turbo S can reach 30 mph in 0.8 seconds and complete the quarter mile in 10.5 seconds — about the time it takes to read this sentence. This heart-racing acceleration is made possible by a completely redesigned eight-speed dual clutch transmission that takes less than a millisecond to change gears.

Plus, this automatic transmission makes the Turbo S accessible to all drivers, in contrast to the many manual sports cars out there. In Fernando’s Turbo S, you can also expect Porsche’s best driver-assistance technology, including active suspension management, rear axle steering, and a new Wet Mode that can mitigate hydroplaning, which will be useful in South Florida’s spontaneous climate.

The Turbo S rocks a timeless design that reflects and aids the vehicle’s outstanding performance. The super-911 has both a rear and front spoiler, which synchronously adjust their shape to maximize aerodynamics and downforce and also assist in air braking and reducing fuel consumption. Fernando’s blacked-out Turbo S proudly displays Porsche’s new one-piece light strip at the rear and forged alloy rims in a black two-tone finish. Behind the rims are striking yellow brake calipers, housing ceramic composite brakes that are 50% lighter than traditional cast iron and improve handling and facilitate braking on bumpy roads. You will also notice that the Turbo S’s wide body frame makes room for plenty of air intake vents and a titanium dual-tip exhaust system. Coupled with a low center of gravity, this head-turning design makes for an aggressive, powerful stance.

Heading inside Fernando’s Turbo S, the all-black theme continues through the extra supportive Adaptive Sport Seats, GT-inspired steering wheel with bolt applications, and leather-wrapped dashboard. The 2023 911 features a customizable, digital dashboard and a 10.9-inch central display complete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The newest iteration of Porsche’s infotainment system also introduces “Hey Porsche” voice control that powers everything from navigation, ambient lighting controls, and the Bose premium sound system. This 100-watt audio system sounds perfectly crisp thanks to significant noise reduction from thick, sound-absorbing roof lining. Yet, the centerpiece of the Porsche dashboard is the analog clock — a timeless reminder that at its core, the Turbo S is an elegant and sophisticated luxury car.

As with almost all Porsche 911 variants, the Turbo S seats up to four passengers — or realistically, two adults and two weekend bags. Thanks to its rear-engine format, the 911 has both a trunk and a frunk, which can store your designer bags from a trip to the Miami Design District.

Although the Turbo S is the fastest 911 available, it looks and feels capable of being a flashy daily driver. Its similarly exotic GT3 RS sibling is track-focused, sporting an aggressive body kit and lightweight carbon materials over luxurious alternatives, but is less endowed with up to 518 hp. The Turbo S is ideal for those looking to experience one of the best sports cars ever produced in a passenger-friendly, ultra-comfortable package. You can experience for yourself with a drive in Fernando’s Turbo S through South Florida’s glamorous, beachfront esplanade.
