The S-Class leads the way
As Mercedes-Benz’s flagship, the S-Class has long set the standard for luxury sedans. It doubles as both a rolling proclamation of success and a showcase for Mercedes’ latest tech. The company puts all their newest features and choicest materials into the S-Class, and paired with a fantastic powertrain and wafty ride, it’s very possibly the finest executive limo on the road.
A new generation of the S-Class launched last year, boasting an even richer interior, a more relaxing ride, and more futuristic safety features and tech. Though it may not look especially conspicuous on the outside, the level of luxury in Miguel’s 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is unquestionably impressive and special. Say hello to our first car of the month in 2022!

If you have sit-in-the-back type of money, your choices for a top-level limo are essentially between Rolls-Royce, Bentley, or this. The 2022 S-Class starts around $112,000, which is a privileged price bracket, but that’s far less than what you’ll pay for a car from those competitors. Besides the comparatively lower price, what the S-Class has that a Roller doesn’t is restraint.

The design appears lavish and sleek to be sure, with sharp modern lines that do a solid job of hiding the S-Class’ immense size. But to the untrained eye it might just look like a Mercedes sedan, which could be very desirable for people who want a superlative vehicle without the constant attention that something more exotic would attract. Miguel’s car is finished in Lunar Blue Metallic, further underscoring the classy-yet-subdued vibe.
The understated exterior leaves all the shine to be directed towards the interior, which is where the real magic lies with the S-Class. This is a tremendously high-class cabin, with acres of beautiful leather, wood panels, and all the big screens you expect in an ultra-luxury vehicle today. Ambient lighting strips emit a pleasing glow throughout the car, and can be set to various colors, patterns, and even themed moods with names like “Miami Rose” and “Malibu Sunset.”

Many regard the newest Mercedes infotainment system as the most advanced and polished on the market, and this is the latest and greatest. One of the S-Class’ fun tricks is in the voice command feature. Of course you can speak your demands to the S-Class and it will obey by lowering the radio’s volume, turning on the defroster, etc. — this is no longer novel with luxury cars. In the S-Class, though, you can select which passengers the car takes commands from, to prevent your kids or that one annoying friend from controlling the settings.

The S-Class cabin also emits fragrances. That’s right, you can buy fragrance packs of your choosing from Mercedes-Benz dealerships, plug them inside the glove box, and your S-Class will release Mercedes-branded aromas through your climate control vents. That’s luxury.
Miguel’s car is the S 500, which has a turbocharged and supercharged six-cylinder engine that makes 429 horsepower. If you prefer a V8, the S 580 pumps out 500 horses. Either engine option is plenty potent to whisk you easily down the street, but the pillowy ride quality is the crucial element of the S-Class’ driving experience. Short of a Rolls-Royce Phantom, this is about the softest, quietest, and most comfortable ride you can find.
Overall, sitting inside the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a wonderful place to be. The interior quality is positively sublime, with the car effortlessly catering to the driver’s and passengers’ every whim. If you want to experience a car that offers truly state-of-the-art luxury, this is it.
