Before the R8, Audi wasn’t known to make supercars. Sure, there were a few prototypes they played with but the R8 was their first real attempt at introducing a mainstream supercar. And while there were a few niggles initially — they borrowed the V8 engine from the Lamborghini Gallardo, put in a traditional gearbox, and introduced a side-blade (which is actually a design flaw) — Audi persevered and developed it into a phenomenon over the years. This was meant to be a flagship car but its popularity among enthusiasts has established it as one of the greatest cars ever made.

At Turo, every employee gets monthly travel credit and I definitely put my savings to good use by borrowing one for a special occasion. The handling, the mind-numbing acceleration, the grip, and seemingly limitless power this car has is in a league shared by very few. It is a car that performs like an Italian supercar, at half the price — so the value is also in its own league. And unlike a Ferrari 458 or McLaren MP4-12C, it is German, which means it is built to last.

Regardless of the occasion, an R8 will make your trip that much more special. Find our April car of the month near you!
