Now that the winter season is warming up (so to speak), we’re getting in the cold weather mood with Nicholas Z.’s snowshoeing adventure from last winter in Crested Butte, CO.

He geared up for the Rocky Mountain chill with Andrew’s Nissan Pathfinder, and set off from Denver into the depths of mountain crags, snow-blanketed prairies, and night skies freckled with hundreds of ice-blue stars, the kind that shine bluest and brightest only in the clear, icy cold.

They were visited by some friendly beavers, heard a spine-tingling midnight coyote rally, and snowshoed through Washington Gulch Trail, which is usually only accessible to summertime hikers.

Go beyond pumpkin spice lattes and the season’s first comfort food binges and get in the winter-weather mood with some hearty outdoor inspiration. Whether you ski, snowboard, ice fish, or snowshoe, warm up to the cold weather with Nicholas Z.
